Chess in Nelson We offer training programs and tournaments for all ages and levels. Welcome to Chess in Nelson! Koha: $5.

Our courses focus on strategy, creativity, and problem-solving in a friendly, supportive environment. We have two programs open to all ages:

- "Chess: The Art of Creativity" is our teaching boot camp for new players, beginners, and intermediates to learn the basics and advanced strategies. We meet every Tuesday from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm at the Victory Community Centre, 2 Totara Street. Price: $12 p

er class or $90 for the term (9 weeks).
- "Nelson Chess Club" is the clubhouse where we gather to practice chess. We meet fortnightly on Wednesdays from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Tahunanui Community Hub, 55/61 Muritai Street. Additionally, we organize workshops and tournaments both online and over the board.

Join us for the Denis Boyce Memorial this Wednesday, 25 March, from 5:50 to 8:10pm at the Tahunanui Community Hub, Nelson ♟️

This open tournament will be played with a 10-minute time control per player and will serve as a qualifier for an interclub match against Argentina 🇦🇷

Chess classes are coming to Motueka High School!
The Checkmate Pawn Course offers students aged 8–18 from Motueka and surrounding areas the chance to start from scratch or refine their skills, explore strategies, boost creativity, and challenge their minds in a fun and relaxed environment.

Classes will run in Te Maatu at Motueka High School on Fridays from 4:30–5:30pm, from 20 February to 27 March, finishing with a friendly tournament between students, with medals for the top three places and certificates for all participants.
