⚽🖤🤍 Napier U19 National Championships 🤍🖤⚽

Another year, another trek to Napier for this amazing tournament!

Coach PB's report -
First game v Taupo, who were a strong, well organised side. We dominated basically the whole game but conceded a goal with about 15mins to go. The boys didn’t panic, were patient and were rewarded just before full time with a brilliant finish from Sammy. Final score 1 all.
Next up was Levin and then Stop Out. Both these sides were really no match for FC. Our ball speed and movement was too much for both those sides plus our ability to recycle and switch play created loads of chances for us which resulted in 7 nil victories against both Levin and Stop Out.
Sunday morning we were in poll position to go on and qualify for the quarters but we had a difficult game against Te Kotahitanga, who we knew would be a tough opposition. After a slow start where TK bossed possession, we finally got our passing game going and our quick transition from back to front and scored 3 quick goals that really proved too much for them to recover. Final score 5-2 win, which basically secured our path for the first time into knockout stage.
Our final pool game was against Gisborne Thistle and with qualification already secured and them needing a big win to qualify, they started off on the right foot and got a penalty after 1 min, but our boys got into there work and proved too strong in the end, wining 2-1 against a plucky, hard working Gisborne side.

So finally after 4 years, we won our pool and qualified for the Quarterfinals!

A great game of football ensued, against a very good Auckland Utd side. High intensity in front of a good crowd. Unfortunately we missed a pen 5mins in, and then 15 minutes later they punished us to take a 1-0 lead at halftime. 2nd half we dominated possession but couldn’t quite break them down. They defended well and even though we had chances to get back into the game it just wasn’t to be. Final score 0-1. It was a fabulous performance from our side superbly led by Will Kearney.

We scored the most goals out of all the other 48 teams at the tournament. Every one of the 15 man squad contributed and everyone got an opportunity to play at this top level tournament. There were some outstanding performances particularly from our front 4 who caused teams problems all tournament. Defensively we were very solid and no team really threatened us, hence we only conceded 5 goals in 6 game - brilliant effort from everyone!

Thanks to the players who all performed to the best of their ability. Particularly pleased for the younger boys like Ku Reh, Elliot, Joel, Felix and Charlie. Ronan's pure speed was a joy to watch. Thanks to Manuel and Emma for there help over the weekend.

Fantastic results team! With a very young team including 5 players under 16, this was an amazing result against teams full of 18-19 year olds! You represented the club with pride and passion!

⚽️🥉FCN U14 Academy at Siuth Island Championships 🥉⚽️

Coach report - Manuel

We had a tough group with Waimak, Christchurch United and Nomads.
We started well in the first game beating Waimak 3-0, the second game we knew it was a game for the top of the group, vs Christchurch United, we played really well, managed to put some pressure on them but we lost 3-1.
The second day started well with a 6-1 win vs Parklands and finished even better with a 4-0 win vs Nomads, our best game at the tournament.
On the last day we faced Mosgiel in the last group game and won 11-1 securing the 2nd position in the group.
The last game was for the 3rd spot facing Cashmere, a great game we dominated from the beginning and won 4-0 finishing the tournament in 3rd place!

The team did really well, playing good football and allowing very few goals, 29 goals scored and only 5 sgainst. We had 12 players scoring goals and 3 clean sheets, we are now aware of what we can achieve!

FC Nelson player Thiago got awarded the MVP of the tournament, 4 goals in the final game vs Cashmere sealed the deal for the MVP race.

Thanks to all the supporters and to Virginia Woolf Photography

Fantastic effort team!!

🐼⚽ What a weekend for the FC Nelson Packing Pandas! ⚽🐼

South Island 11th Grade Girls Tournament - they made it all the way through to the final.
Outstanding, winning all six pool games and finishing top of Pool B - the only team in the tournament to win every game in pool play!
4–1 v CTFC U11 Girls Gold
3–0 v Parklands United
4–3 v Halswell United Kakariki
2–0 v Queenstown FC
3–1 v SASFC 11th Girls
1–0 v Selwyn United Girls Black

One game that really stands out was Halswell. We had heard plenty about how strong they were, but the girls were raring to go. Indiana Wincer scored an incredible hat-trick inside the first five minutes before Skye Taylor added our fourth in a 4–3 win.
Our defensive effort was just as impressive. We conceded only five goals across the entire tournament, with Aimie Roberts and Raffaella Benson outstanding at the back and Lila Johnson and Taylor Eggers doing a fantastic job in goal.
Our goals came from:
Skye Taylor, 9 ⚽
Indiana Wincer, 7 ⚽
Izzy Fawns, 1 ⚽

Six wins from six took us into the Final against Waimak United, the same team we faced in the Alan Fraser final in July.
It was a huge performance from both teams, with Lila pulling off some massive diving saves for us. The game finished 0–0, meaning the South Island title came down to penalties. Waimak eventually won the shootout 3–1.
Seven games. Six wins. One draw. No defeats in regulation time. 17 goals scored. Only five conceded. Four clean sheets. 🥈

Our parent-voted tournament MVP was Raffaella Benson. She was immense at the back all weekend, stopping wave after wave of attacks, winning the ball and then threading passes forward.

As a coach, I could not be prouder of what they have achieved. Their attitude, determination and teamwork were fantastic from the first whistle on Friday morning right through to the final on Sunday.
A huge shout-out to all of the parents who came down and supported us throughout the weekend. A big thank you as well to Steve Galbreath for assisting me with the coaching, and to the Golden Bay Honey Bees for getting behind us and cheering the girls on in the final!
