Losing muscle as we age is inevitable but there is a large part we can control with our nutrition and our strength training.

The alarm goes off. It's cold. The bed is warm. The internal argument starts.

'I could go tomorrow instead.'
'I'm tired.'
'I've had a big week.'

And then she got up anyway.

Because she knows how she feels after. Clear head. Proud of herself. Energy that lasts the whole day. The feeling that she did something for herself, not just for everyone else.

What cortisol might be doing to your waistline — and why it's worth understanding.
Something we hear a lot from women in their 40s and 50s:
"I'm doing everything right and nothing is shifting."
If that's you — it might be worth looking at what's happening with stress, sleep and cortisol.
When cortisol stays elevated for long periods, research suggests the body tends to hold onto fat around the middle as an energy reserve. Add poor sleep and low protein into the mix, and it becomes a really stubborn combination.

Your metabolism hasn't broken. But a lot has changed.

Oestrogen, progesterone and cortisol all behave differently once you're in your 40s and 50s. That changes where you store fat, how your blood sugar responds, and why those old tricks just don't cut it anymore.

That's not failure. That's biology.
