If you're aged 15+, looking to play for BDI/Leeston Rugby Football Club in 2027 and want to focus on your game this could be the 6 week block for you! Grab your boots and head on down to the Leeston grounds on Weds for the first week of the Elite Player Development Program, designed specifically by Leestons own John Leslie Legg. Check out the video in the comments for more details!

🔥 OFF-SEASON ELITE PLAYER DEVELOPMENT IS HERE! 🔥

Attention all players ready to elevate their performance!

Leeston Rugby Off-Season Elite Player Development Program is almost upon us, starting THIS WEDNESDAY at 7:00 P.M. at the club, we begin the first session of a focused six-week block.

This is the perfect opportunity for any player wanting to take their game to the next level.
Leeston’s own John Legg has designed program built around fundamental run-catch-pass development, alongside targeted aerobic and anaerobic capacity building. We'll finish off each session with high-intensity anaerobic games, specifically structured to practice core skills under pressure in a game-simulation environment.

Leeston Rugby has a rich history of developing players over the last decade who have gone on to play at a high level. Guys like Shun Miyake (Canterbury NPC player) and Alister Collins (Ellesmere Rugby Senior) have all taken part in this very program over the last few years.

If you are serious about taking your game to the next level, this is for you. This program is specifically aimed at players with their sights set on playing for Leeston or BDI in our 2027 Jubilee year. Ages 15+

See you this Wednesday!

Our thoughts are with the Happer family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him during this time.

Congrats are in order for our very own Emily G Mc for being recognised as Volunteer of the Year at the recent Ellesmere Rugby Sub Union prize giving!
Emily does a lot in the girls rugby space with the Ellesmere Lambs and Lambies and shows up on the sideline for Matt when game times align (although she'd probably rather he was just on the sideline too!).
The club couldn't be more proud and grateful for all that you do :-)

🏆 SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD WINNER 2026

This year’s winner has been nominated for the past three years running — by three different coaches!

That alone should give you a pretty good idea of the way he carries himself and the attitude he shows towards others — not only within his own team, but towards anyone he comes up against, both on and off the field. He consistently shows respect, kindness, fairness and a genuine love of the game.

So, it is with great pleasure that we announce our 2026 Sportsmanship Award Winner is CASEY HURST!

Congratulations Casey, and to all our nominees. A very well-deserved award!

A special note goes to Liz and Hutch, who were recognised at our Senior prize giving earlier in August for all the work they have done around the JAB space this year. Thanks team!

A huge THANK YOU to our incredible sponsors — Hedges & More, Wolff Electrical, On the Spot Dunsandel & Grass to Glass — and to our coaches, managers, parents, players and supporters.

You’re the reason our JAB keeps kicking goals!

Here’s to a fantastic season and an even bigger future for our youngest Bulls!
