What happens when Swiss mobility expertise meets Dutch intersection design? 🚲🇨🇭🇳🇱
Last week, we were delighted to co-host the Knotengestaltung workshop in Bern together with bfm, bringing together Swiss and Dutch expertise on intersection design and cycling infrastructure.
The day began with insights from Swiss cycling policy and upcoming national developments, followed by discussions on the infrastructural and social potential of cycling. Participants then put theory into practice by applying the Dutch intersection model to their own local cases.
One message that stood out: successful infrastructure is about more than design alone. As Prof. Dr. Dorothea Schaffner highlighted, participation is essential for the social acceptance of new mobility practices, among planners and mobility professionals as well as the public.
By creating inviting, accessible infrastructure, we can help cycling appeal to a broader and more diverse group of people.
A great example of the value of international knowledge exchange, and one we hope to repeat soon.
