Limerick GAA can confirm that Limerick Senior Hurling Manager John Kiely is to continue in his role for the 2027 season with an option to extend for a further season thereafter. The remainder of his management and backroom team will be confirmed in due course. The extension is subject to ratification by delegates at the October meeting of the Limerick County Board.

Commenting on the news Limerick GAA Chairman Seamus Mc Namara said “We are delighted that John is set to continue on in his role as Limerick Senior Hurling Manager for at least another season. John, his management team and players have brought so much positivity to the county and we are delighted that he will remain at the helm for 2027.”

Shout out to John O'Neill ...a fantastic hurler & friend with a constant smile and a joy to be in his company! Fairly good farmer too!

John played for his beloved Blackrock at juvenile level & progressed to adult level and won a Limerick IHC medal after a 2-04 to 0-08 defeat of Na Piarsaigh in the '93 final.
At inter-county level, O'Neill first played for Limerick as part of the minor team that beat Kilkenny to win the All-Ireland МНС title in 1984.
He progressed to the under-21 team and won consecutive Munster U21HC titles, before claiming an All-Ireland U21HC medal after a 2-15 to 3-06 win over Galway in the 1987 final.

John was drafted onto the senior team in 1993 and was part of the team that won the Munster SHC the following year after a defeat of Clare in the final.
He was an unused substitute for Limerick's defeat by Offaly in the 1994 All-Ireland final.
