One practice can produce four very different coaching moments.

A player recognises the correct forward pass, but the ex*****on lets them down.

Praise the recognition and help refine the detail.

A player repeatedly plays backwards without checking forward.

Ask a question that directs their attention.

A player’s closed body position prevents them from seeing the available picture.

Provide one clear correction.

A player loses possession, reacts, regains it and finds a better solution.

Let play continue. They are already solving the problem.

Effective feedback is not about having something to say after every action.

It is about recognising what will help this player, in this moment.

Praise? Question? Correct? Or let play continue?

A brilliant group is taking shape in Rathgormack. ⚽

Our Academy block is now underway, with boys and girls working within age-appropriate groups each Wednesday evening.

The sessions combine:
⚽ Confidence with the ball
⚽ Technical development
⚽ Decision-making
⚽ Small-sided games
⚽ Competition
⚽ Plenty of enjoyment

Limited places currently remain in this block.

New players are welcome to experience their first session for free before deciding whether they would like to continue.

Sometimes a young player doesn’t need more pressure.

She just needs the right place to begin. 💗⚽

Our Girls Development Centre provides age-appropriate coaching for girls at different stages of their football journey.

Some are experiencing organised football for the first time.

Others already play and want another environment in which to develop.

Across the session, players are encouraged to:
⚽ Become more confident with the ball
⚽ Learn through games and challenges
⚽ Make their own decisions
⚽ Play alongside other girls
⚽ Develop at an appropriate level
⚽ Enjoy returning each week

New players are still welcome, and a free first session is available with no obligation to join afterwards.

Every coach gives feedback.

But not every piece of feedback helps a player improve.

Sometimes a player needs encouragement.

Sometimes they need one clear correction.

Sometimes a well timed question can help them recognise the answer themselves.

And sometimes the best coaching decision is to remain quiet and allow the player to solve the problem.

This week inside the Evolve Coaching Room, we’re exploring:

FEEDBACK THAT CHANGES PLAYERS

The focus is not simply on what a coach says. It is about recognising:
⚽ What the player needs
⚽ When the intervention will help
⚽ How much information is useful
⚽ When play should be allowed to continue

Great coaching isn’t measured by how much we speak.

It is measured by how much players learn.

A day these players will remember. ⚽👏

Last weekend, Evolve players had the special opportunity to act as mascots for CK United FC’s first-ever National League match.

Wearing their Evolve X CK United jerseys, the players experienced the build-up behind the scenes before walking out as part of an important day for the club.

These moments are about much more than watching a match.

They help young players feel connected to the game, part of something meaningful and inspired by the pathway in front of them.

We’re delighted that our partnership with CK United could provide this experience and proud of how brilliantly the players represented Evolve throughout the day.

Thank you to CK United FC for including them in such a significant occasion.

Giving every player the same activity does not mean they experience the same learning.

Inside one practice:
One player may need support to rebuild confidence.

Another may need greater challenge because success has become too comfortable.

Another may need help recognising different decisions.

The coach doesn’t need to design three separate sessions.

A different question, responsibility, challenge or moment of encouragement may be enough.

The important skill is noticing what the player needs before deciding how to
intervene.

Same practice. Same objective. Different coaching.

This is the focus of Module 1 in Season 3 of the Evolve Coaching Room.

Different ages. Different journeys. One positive environment. 💗⚽

Our Girls Development Centre returned last week, with players working across three age groups:
💗 Ages 6–8
💗 Ages 9–11
💗 Ages 12–13

Some players are taking their first steps into football.

Others already have experience and are ready for greater challenges.

The purpose is not to coach every player in exactly the same way. It is to provide each group with an appropriate environment in which they can:
⚽ Build confidence with the ball
⚽ Develop their skills
⚽ Make decisions
⚽ Play games and compete
⚽ Learn alongside other girls
⚽ Enjoy being part of the group

The block is underway, but new players are still welcome.

One session. Sixteen players. Sixteen different learning journeys.

Every player arrives with different strengths, experiences, confidence levels and responses to challenge.

Yet it can be easy to coach the entire group in exactly the same way.

Great player development requires us to look beyond the activity and notice the individual experiencing it.

Who needs encouragement?

Who needs greater challenge?

Who needs a question?

Who needs another opportunity without an intervention?

Today, Season 3 begins inside the Evolve Coaching Room:

DEVELOPING BETTER PLAYERS

Module 1 explores how coaches can support different individuals without designing a
separate session for every player.

The objective is to stop thinking only about:

“How do I coach this session?”

And begin asking:

“Who needs me during this session and what do they need?”
