The 2026 Hounsley Cup and Shield finals were contested in the Showgrounds and Pearse Road on Sunday afternoon resulting in two excellent games of football.
The Shield final saw Enniscorthy Utd. C run out 5-2 winners over Ferns C in a contest that brought plenty of supporters from both sides and plenty of goal mouth action too. Congratulations to Enniscorthy Utd. and a special word of thanks to Town Legend, Joe Moorehouse who presented the Shield to winning captain Mark Morrissey. Joe was representing his father Robbie who is one of the co-founders of the Hounsley Cup.
In the Cup final, hosts Enniscorthy Town inspired by a man of the match performance from Joe Hyland beat the talented Shamrock Rovers Under 19s by 5 goals to 1, level at 1-1 at the break after a luke Collins header had cancelled out Alfredo Torres opener.
A very tight game until the 70th minute when a fantastic Liam Murphy free kick from 25 yards turned the game in Towns favour, a spectacular Eoghan Crosbie overhead kick 5 mins later put Town 3-1 up and ahmad jellassi and alfredo Torres then rounding off the scoring with rovers pushing players foward in the hope of a comeback.
Our chairman Billy Crosbie welcomed our new President, Mrs. Theresa O' Connor, an Enniscorthy Town Icon herself and Denis Hennessey representing The Wexford Football League to proceedings. Our former president, the late, great Seamus O' Leary was fondly remembered by the Chairman.
We were delighted that Theresa was in attendance and was on hand to present the trophy to our captain, Killian Ronan who led an inspired Town team to victory.
A special word of thanks to our tournament officials, Kieran "Doc" Dunne, Elaine Casey and Vladimir Onyschenko for their excellent officiating throughout.
Also, a thank you to Joe Hyland of Hayes' pub for looking after us throughout the tournament.
We are very proud to have the historic tournament back up and running and we hope we can continue to improve it year on year. Best of luck for the coming season to all the teams who contested this year.
