Corkbeg AFC Community focused football club based in Whitegate, Co. Cork. Catering for players from Age 5 upwards. Celebrated 50 years in Football in 2018.

Corkbeg AFC was founded in 1968. We are a community focused football club based in Whitegate, Co. Our Home ground is situated in Corkbeg Sports & Social Club in Whitegate. The club caters for players at Schoolboy, Schoolgirls and Adult age groups, from the age of 5 years upwards. The Club seeks to provide soccer games and training for all who wish to participate in a safe and enjoyable environment

. The club is affiliated to the FAI, CSL, CWSSL, Cork AUL, Cork Youths League and MFA. The Club has 13 competitive teams at present and runs an underage academy every Sunday morning for six to ten year olds. Our competitive teams are :

Adult : Junior (Cork AUL) & U-19 (CYL)

Schoolboy : U12, U12'A', U13, U-13'A,' U-14, U-14'A', U-15, U-16 and U-16'A' (CSL)

Schoolgirls: U-16 and U-14 (CWSSL)

AULDiv1 - Mallow Town 2 Corkbeg 2

Corkbeg were on the road to Mallow very early on Sunday morning to newly promoted Mallow Town.

Conditions were brutal - more like early February than early September with heavy rain showers and strong gale blowing up the hill. In the 4th minute, Corkbeg got off to a great start, when Ryan O Regan (pictured) scored from the spot after being fouled in the box by Mallow defender.

Difficult conditions made it hard for both teams to control and play flowing football, but that said, it was against the run of play when Mallow scored when centre back Paul Ayodele was in the right place from a set piece.

Second half started at frantic pace with both teams moving the ball well around the park, but defences were repelling every attack. Corkbeg had goalkeeper Jago Evans to thank for not going behind when he made a top drawer point blank stop soon after half time.

The Beg went ahead again on 54 minutes, when Ryan O Regan grabbed his second of the day after good work by Oisin Shanahan.

With 20 minutes remaining, Mallow equalised for the second time after long ball over the top by Howell was met by substitute Jean Jaques Zupancic Adjetey.

The game was end to end and both teams must be commended to keep playing entertaining football due to the adverse weather getting worse as the game progressed.

Corkbeg thought that they had won it late on, when Mark Hogan had ball in net on 85 minutes with great strike, but to the amazement of all it was pulled back for offside.

All in all, especially with the awful conditions, it was good point on the road on a Sunday morning

Cracking contest in Whitegate early on Sunday morning, as Corkbeg came from two goals down at half time to draw 3-3 with Mallow.

Mallow were a very strong side and although they were playing well, they found themselves 3-1 down at half time. The lads showed incredible determination to pull level in the second half and were actually very unlucky not to take all three points.

U12 Denise McCardle-Moore Perpetual Cup

Corkbeg 0 Park 0 (Park win 3-1 after penalties)

Penalty shootout heartbreak for Corkbeg U12s on Saturday afternoon in their first ever competitive fixture, but the girls will take a huge amount of confidence into the league campaign after an excellent display full of heart, battle and desire in their opening game of the season.

There was some first game rustiness on display in our opening half performance with the visitors that little bit sharper and quicker to the ball and Corkbeg had a dominant display from Faye in goal to thank for going in at the break with the scores all square.

The second half performance was much more in keeping with the levels this team has produced in previous seasons that saw them deservedly propelled to division 1, on the front foot all over the pitch, pinning the opposition inside their own half and playing some lovely crisp free flowing football.

Unfortunately the bounce of the ball just wouldn’t go our way and after a few close shaves penalties were required to separate the sides and despite 2 great saves from Faye the visitors prevailed in the shootout.

The girls can be immensely proud of that performance and on that display will be more than a match for any team in the coming season.

CWSSL U14 Cup - Corkbeg 3 Corinthians 1

Corkbeg’s first outing in the U14 Cup saw them face a familiar challenge in the form of fellow Division 1 side Corinthians, making for a highly competitive cup tie from the outset.

The game began at a frantic pace, with both sides trading blows and neither willing to give an inch. Corkbeg took a little time to settle into their rhythm, and Corinthians capitalised on a breakthrough to take the lead.

However, the response from Corkbeg was immediate — and what a response it was. Caitlin Schweppe produced a goal-of-the-season contender to bring Corkbeg level and completely change the momentum of the game. At 1–1 going into half-time, there was everything to play for.

The second half developed into a real arm wrestle. Both teams showed why they are competing at Division 1 level, with the defences on both sides producing outstanding performances. Chances were hard-earned, challenges were fierce, and neither side was prepared to back down.

It was Corkbeg who eventually won the battle.
Anna Lombard showed great composure to put Caitlin through, who made no mistake in finishing for her second of the afternoon and putting Corkbeg in front.

And there was more to come.
Caitlin completed her second hat-trick of the week in spectacular fashion, although she may have taken the concept of being involved in your own goal a little too far by somehow providing the assist for herself! 😂

While the goals grabbed the headlines, Cashel Logue was arguably the difference between a Corkbeg win and a draw or defeat. In goal, Cashel was outstanding. She provided a safe pair of hands throughout, dealing calmly with everything Corinthians threw at her and showing excellent control and composure when the pressure was on. Her performance gave the team the confidence to keep pushing forward and ultimately see the game out.

The back line also deserves huge credit for the way they handled the pressure, with May Kelleher putting in a particularly strong performance. May was composed, determined and committed throughout, making some excellent defensive interventions and helping to keep Corinthians at bay when the pressure was on.

This was a hard-fought cup victory against another Division 1 side, and one that showed real character from the Corkbeg girls. After a slow start, they settled, dug in and ultimately showed the quality and determination needed to progress in the Cup.

U-19Div1 – Corkbeg 5 Lakewood 5

A mad game in Whitegate on Saturday morning, as the two teams went end-to-end for 90 minutes and both teams came away with a point after a goalfest. Corkbeg led five times, but in a wide-open game, they were pegged back five times by the Ovens side.

The goal was only 5 minutes old, wen Cillian Burke latched on to a long clearance by Jago Evans to side foot Corkbeg ahead. But after a great left handed save by Jago soon afterwards, Lakewood made their 2nd attempt at goal count, as Charlie Hayes grabbed his first goal of the afternoon – all square after 17 minutes. But Corkbeg deservedly led again on 25 minutes, when Zak Butler got in a fine cross and new signing Ewan Murphy headed past the Lakewood goalkeeper to make it 2-1. But again, Lakewood equalised with a fine move right down the middle & another good finish by Hayes. A good header by Jack Mulcahy was saved by the Lakewood goalkeeper Harrington shortly before half time. 2-2 at the break.
Ten minutes into the 2nd period and Corkbeg led again after good work by Ewan Murphy led to Jack Mulcahy scoring from close range. Corkbeg should have gone further ahead – Ewan Forbes had a header well saved, Cillian Burke had a shot saved and Sam Mcallister drove over the crossbar from close in. But – pattern developing here – Lakewood equalised with Sam O Leary scoring from the penalty spot on 70 minutes to tie up the game again.

Corkbeg were peppering the Lakewood goal at this point and the Lakewood keeper made a brilliant double save firstly from a Cillian Burke header and then from Jack Mulcahys rebound. Ten minutes from time, Josh McCarthy scored for Corkbeg from close range, but almost immediately, Ewan Forbes made a brilliant goaline clearance to deny an instant Lakewood equaliser. There wasn’t much respite – after a really good block from Cormac Crowley, Lakewood scored again with seven minutes left on the clock – Charlie Hayes completing his hat-trick. 4-4.

90 minutes on the clock and a good move involving Cillian Burke & Josh McCarthy set up Jack Mulcahy for a last minute winner. Or so we thought. But, no, the madness continued and straight from kick-off, Lakewood struck again through O Leary to take a share of the points in a mad game.

U12Div 4 - Corkbeg 6 Douglas Hall A 2

U12 Boys Start the Season with an Impressive Win

The Corkbeg U12 boys got their season off to a fantastic start on a sunny morning in Dungourney. With some of the coaches arguably more excited than the players, people began arriving from 9:00am for our first competitive game of the season against Douglas Hall.

The game took a little time to settle, and within seven minutes Douglas Hall had taken the lead following a well-worked move. In previous seasons, this young team might have let their heads drop, but not today.

Corkbeg responded brilliantly and began to find their rhythm. Noah came close with a fantastic free kick that rattled the crossbar, and just four minutes later Aaron struck the post. The pressure was building and the equaliser felt inevitable.

The breakthrough arrived when Tom McCarthy's corner was cleverly flicked on by Finley, setting up Mark, who calmly fired home into the bottom corner to level the game.

With 15 players available and only nine on the pitch at a time, the coaches began rotating the squad. Every player contributed, with Dylan Murphy making some excellent runs down the left wing and Donagh causing problems on the right. Corkbeg continued to push forward and were rewarded when Mason found the net on 21 minutes to make it 2-1.

At that stage it looked like Corkbeg had fully settled into the game, but Douglas Hall responded well, breaking through a crowded defence to score a fine equaliser. The game remained evenly balanced.

Dylan Murphy continued to impress on the left with a series of dangerous crosses, while Tom McCarthy's delivery from corners repeatedly tested the visitors. One such corner found Aaron, who finished well to restore Corkbeg's lead, giving the home side a 3-2 advantage at half-time.

The second half brought another round of fresh legs for Corkbeg. Douglas Hall started brightly and were awarded a penalty on 32 minutes, but Casey McCarthy produced a superb save to deny them the chance to level the game for a third time.

Moments later, Corkbeg broke forward. Dylan Murphy played an excellent pass into Dylan Northridge, who still had plenty of work to do. He drove directly at goal, beat two defenders and finished brilliantly to make it 4-2 on 35 minutes.

Corkbeg continued to press and were rewarded again when Mason burst through the centre to score his second goal of the game on 40 minutes, extending the lead to 5-2.

With 15 minutes remaining, fresh legs were introduced once more. On 50 minutes, Finley produced a great run down the wing before picking out Mason in the centre. Mason then unselfishly set up Tom McCarthy, who finished superbly into the top corner to make it 6-2.

At the other end, solid defending from Sean Lombard, Noah, Myles, Luke and Dylan Wall ensured Corkbeg grew stronger as the match progressed and limited the visitors' opportunities.

A huge congratulations to all 15 players. With so many squad rotations throughout the game, every player played their part and contributed to a terrific team performance. The coaches did their best to balance game time for everyone, and the attitude, effort and teamwork shown by the boys was outstanding from start to finish.

Higgins making late Charge for Ryder Cup selection !!

Congratulations to beg legend Kieran Higgins who showed he hasn’t lost his touch in the sporting arena by shooting a hole in one on the 12th in Cobh Golf Club.

Not sure if Luke Donald follows our page but he could do worse than have Higgser in the home dressing room for the big match in Adare next year.

Wednesdays AULDiv1 Result:

Glen Hibernians 2 Corkbeg 2

Corkbeg played their second league game of season away to Glen Hiberians on Wednesday night at Glen Park and came away with a share of the points after a tough 2-2 draw.

The first half was very nip and tuck with both teams doing their best to break the deadlock with chances on both sides in a physical battle. On 32 minutes, Mark Hogan had the ball in the net for Corkbeg, but the goal was disallowed for offside which was dubious to say the least.

On 52 minutes, the home side broke the deadlock from a corner when ball broke in box and midfielder Adam Paul Murphy got the finishing touch. But, there was an immediate response and from the kick off, a Jordan Tynan long ball to Mark Hogan saw Mark go around goalkeeper William Murphy and teams were level - Mark scoring with a brilliant finish from a difficult angle.

On 60 minutes, Mark Hogan got his second goal of the game from a thunderbolt of a shot which gave Murphy no chance to give Corkbeg a deserved lead. The game was now turning in a tough battle with tackles and aerial challenges all at 100 mph.

Ryan O Regan had great chance on 63 minutes to leave clear daylight between the sides, but his sidefoot shot grazed the crossbar.

Glen drew level on 65 min again from a corner and again from Adam Paul Murphy. Rest of game was played with both teams chasing a winner, but both keepers playing their part in keeping parity.......all in all tough game in difficult conditions and a good point on the road against a tough side.
