Club Owner Statement – E.C. United BC
E.C. United BC hereby gives formal notice that, due to an exceptionally challenging situation including but not limited to insufficient club resources, limited operational support from members, increased operational costs, and a highly competitive player environment within East Cork and surrounding areas, the club is no longer in a position to continue its activities.
As Founder and Owner, I had the honour of establishing and leading the club over the past three years. During this time, the club achieved significant sporting success, including:
2023/2024 Division 2 Championship Winners
2024/2025 Division 2 Championship Winners
2025/2026 Division 2 League Champions
These achievements reflect a period of sustained excellence and clear competitive dominance within Division 2 over multiple seasons.
However, despite these achievements, due to a combination of personal circumstances and the operational factors outlined above, it is hereby confirmed that E.C. United BC is, with effect from 06.05.2026, deemed defunct indefinitely, with all club activities suspended until further notice. For the avoidance of doubt, the club is not dissolved or legally deconstructed at this time.
Player Status and Transfers
All registered players are hereby formally released from E.C. United BC. Players shall be eligible to transfer to another club only upon full settlement of any and all outstanding obligations to E.C. United BC, including but not limited to membership fees, equipment, or any other agreed commitments. All transfers remain subject to the completion and approval of the relevant transfer documentation in accordance with the rules and regulations of Cork Basketball and Basketball Ireland.
E.C. United BC reserves the right to confirm clearance status on a case-by-case basis where required.

I would like to formally acknowledge and thank Cork Basketball, as well as William McCarthy, for their trust, guidance, and support, and for welcoming the club into the Cork basketball community.
I also extend sincere thanks to all sponsors and individuals involved in supporting the club. Special appreciation is extended to our partners, in particular Clive Seal and Midleton College, for accommodating us over the past three years.
Finally, I wish to thank all players, opponents, referees, and the wider Cork basketball community for their contribution, professionalism, and sportsmanship throughout the club’s existence.
“Go raibh maith agaibh go léir agus gach rath oraibh amach anseo.”
