This summer, 4 teams, each comprising 6 members of Loop Head Rowing Club will undertake a 50 km open-water row around the headland at Loop Head on the Atlantic coast, and up the tidal estuary of Ireland’s longest river, the Shannon. This is not a routine event. It is physically demanding, weather ...

Last year, we were delighted to welcome Julia and Felix from the Netherlands to Loop Head. What started as a visit through a shared love of rowing quickly became a wonderful friendship.

They spent time rowing with us, exploring our coastline, and experiencing everything that makes this corner of the world so special. Even after returning home, we stayed in touch, proving that rowing has a unique way of bringing people together across countries, cultures, and coastlines.

When their club heard about our Looping the Loop challenge in aid of MS Ireland, they wanted to help. Inspired by the event, they have organised rowing races of their own to raise funds for our cause. 🙌🏻

We are genuinely touched by their support. It is a wonderful reminder that the rowing community is far bigger than any one club. Friendships formed on the water can travel thousands of kilometres, and the spirit of helping others knows no borders.

From Loop Head to The Netherlands, thank you, Felix and your fellow rowers. Your kindness, generosity, and enthusiasm mean the world to us.

United by rowing. Connected by friendship. Rowing together for a cause that matters. ❤️

Please take a moment to visit their page (and their socials) and show them some support. It means so much to see our Dutch cairde in the Netherlands getting behind this challenge and helping to raise funds for MS Ireland.

At just 11 minutes long, it is a reminder that the real challenge is never finding content, it is deciding what to leave out. We did our best to capture over two and a half hours of activity in a short piece, and we hope it gives a sense of the day. For those of you who prefer something even shorter, we will share a bite-sized snapshot later today.

A sincere buíochas mór to everyone who came out to join us. What a joy it was to see such a turnout and such interest in our shared heritage.

We are very grateful to Burren Beo Trust for their support through the Heritage Keepers programme. It is a fantastic initiative that helps communities celebrate and take pride in the rich layers of heritage around us, not only our history, but also our built environment, our natural landscapes, and the traditions that connect them.

Our thanks also to the CDA for giving the board pride of place on the building, and we wish Maura and all involved ádh mór, with the upcoming opening of the Post Office and siopa.

A special word of thanks to Robert Brown, who joined us yesterday and was an absolute star. His knowledge is matched only by his passion and deep love for this part of Ireland, and we were very lucky to have him with us.

We also extend our thanks to Dr Conn Herriott for adding a fascinating marine dimension to the walk, opening up another layer of the story beneath and around us.

Over the coming weeks, we will be developing a new page on our website where you can explore the stories featured on the board in greater depth, and discover even more besides. Watch this space.
