🎒BACK TO SCHOOL CHESS CHALLENGE🎒♟️

Welcome back, everyone.

Summer is over and a new school year is starting — so what better way to celebrate than with a little chess tournament. 🏆♟️

Our young chess players came together to play, think, challenge themselves and, most importantly, have fun.

Some won, some lost, but every game was a chance to learn something new and become a better player.

Remember: chess is not only about winning — it’s about learning, thinking, improving and enjoying the game.

A big well done to everyone who took part.👏

And to those who couldn’t make it this time — we hope to see you at our next tournament.

♟️ Today we practised one of the most important checkmates in chess — Queen and King vs King. 👑♔

We worked on finding checkmate from different positions on the board and learning how the Queen and King work together.

And, of course, getting the children to pose for photos was probably the hardest part of the lesson! 😂 They were much more interested in showing their checkmates than smiling for the camera! ♟️😄

☀️ It was one of the hottest days of the week…

Most people were thinking about the beach. 🏖️
Our young chess players were thinking about their next move. ♟️

With sun hats on and smiles all around, we enjoyed another fantastic afternoon of chess.

Some days are simply too good to miss—especially when they include great games and great company. ❤️

What a lovely way to finish another chess class. ♟️❤️

As the games came to an end, the children worked together to pack away the chess sets, helping one another with smiles and encouragement. It’s always so heartwarming to see their kindness, teamwork, and friendships grow week after week.

Chess is about so much more than the moves on the board. It’s about learning to think, supporting one another, celebrating successes, and enjoying the journey together.

A huge thank you to the library for always making us feel so welcome. It truly is such a beautiful place, and today we also had the chance to enjoy the wonderful exhibition after our class. We feel so lucky to spend our Wednesdays in such an inspiring setting. 🫶

Yesterday in class we explored the Sicilian Defence — one of the most popular and exciting chess openings.

It was great to see the children focusing, thinking ahead, and starting to understand deeper plans in the opening.

A big thank you to the library for hosting us — always such a welcoming and beautiful space for our chess sessions. We truly appreciate it 🫶☀️

♟️ We are back to recording our chess games!

It’s wonderful to see the children embracing the challenge of learning chess notation, working together, supporting one another, and growing as players. Every lesson brings new discoveries, confidence, and plenty of smiles.

Watching their talents develop while having fun is truly magical. We are so proud of each and every one of them. ❤️
