On Friday 30th October Fingal Rowing Club Celebrated 10 Years rowing on the East Coast.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for Fingal Rowing Club’s 10 Year Anniversary Celebration.

It was a truly fantastic evening and a proud moment for our club, seeing so many members, supporters, friends and families come together to celebrate such a significant milestone in our history. Ten years of dedication, commitment, hard work and countless memories have brought us to where we are today, and we can all take great pride in what this club has achieved.

Congratulations to everyone who received an award on the night, and a special congratulations to our crews who proudly brought home East Coast medals. These achievements are a reflection of the hard work, determination and team spirit that runs throughout our club.

As we look ahead to 2027, we do so with ambition, pride and determination. We have built something special over the past ten years, and this is only the beginning. We will continue to push forward, work together and come back stronger than ever.

A very special thank you to The La-La Café & Restaurant in Balbriggan for hosting us.

The season may have ended with the loss of our two skiffs Fingal and St.Maur but that didn’t dampen our club members spirits. Fingal Rowing Club is more than the boats we row in, it’s an energy and spirit created by our club members.

Ten years of pride. Ten years of teamwork. Ten years of Fingal Rowing Club.

Where it all began!

Loss of the racing skiffs.

It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that we share the news of a terrible accident that has resulted in the destruction of two of our club’s racing skiffs, Fingal and St. Maur.

A fire broke out at the location where our racing boats were stored, and the ensuing blaze tragically destroyed both skiffs.

While we are devastated by the loss of our flagship boat, Fingal, the loss of St. Maur cuts even deeper for so many within our club. St. Maur was far more than a racing boat. She was a true labour of love, built by our own club members, funded through the generosity of our members and the countless fundraising efforts that brought her to life. Every part of her carried meaning. From her tiller to the copper nails that held her planks together, she represented the time, skill, dedication and memories of the people who built her, their families, and the wider club community.

To see both boats lost in such circumstances is heartbreaking. We know that many members will feel this loss deeply, and we will take time to remember what these boats meant to us and the countless memories they gave us.

But while this is a dark moment for our club, our resolve has never been stronger.

Plans are already being put in place for next season, and we are determined to move forward together. At this time, it is believed that there was no malicious act involved in the fire, a devastating accident that could have happened at any time.

There is, however, one thing for which we are profoundly thankful: no one was injured, or worse, as a result of the fire. Boats can be rebuilt. Memories can be carried forward. What matters most is that everyone came away safely.

We are also incredibly grateful that no injury came to the owners of the site, and our club is working closely with all parties involved as the cleanup and aftermath of the fire continues.

The road ahead will not be easy, but we have faced challenges before, and we will face this one together.

Like a phoenix, we will once again rise from the ashes.

The boats may be gone, but the spirit that built them remains. The hands that shaped St. Maur, the people who raced Fingal, the families who supported them, and the community that stood behind both boats are still here.

And that is what will carry us forward.

Finally, we want to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has reached out and supported us during this incredibly difficult time, to those directly affected by the fire, to our own members and supporters, and especially to our fellow East Coast Clubs.

The outpouring of support, kindness and solidarity has meant more to us than we can put into words.

We mourn the loss of Fingal and St. Maur. We remember what they meant.

And now, together, we begin again.

World Mental Health Day 2026

Our mental health matters, both on and off the water!

We are blessed in Fingal Rowing Club to have so many club members to speak with and share concerns with. We row together, build friendships together and help each other. Taking time for yourself, checking in on others and speaking up can really make a difference.

Hope Row 2026

Today, Saturday 26th September, two of our crews will take part in Stella Maris Rowing Club annual Hope Row in aid of Alzheimer's Society of Ireland.

Our Novice ladies and Mixed crew will take to the Liffey and race 10k for a very good cause. The Novice race will take place at 1pm with the mixed race taking place after at 2pm.

We would like to wish our crews the very best of luck as they take to the water and race along side our fellow East Coast Clubs.

As the evenings draw nearer and we begin to see less time on the water, here are a few more photos of brighter, longer days from our Lambay Challenge 2026. A big thank you to David Long for capturing some of the action from our club support boat on the day.

This coming Saturday, 26th September, two of our crews will take part in the Hope Row run by Stella Maris Rowing Club. This race is run in aid of the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland, and we are proud to support this cause.

Our beautiful regenerated harbour was officially open yesterday by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne, and the Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tony Murphy, have opened the multi-million euro redevelopment of Balbriggan’s Quay Street and Harbour.

Harbour Square is the flagship project and largest infrastructural element of the €50-€55 million 2019-2030 Our Balbriggan Rejuvenation Programme, one of the biggest ongoing urban renewal schemes in the country.

Harbour Square is a unique, sustainable, public open space of 19,300 square metres, incorporating a multi-purpose plaza and linear park designed to host markets, events and festivals and help revitalise Ireland’s youngest large town.

It redefines Balbriggan’s beach and coastline, on both sides of its famous viaduct.

Doesn’t it look stunning! Wonderful to see so much investment in our town!

Amazing news!

Another good news story for Balbriggan and one we have been working on for some time with input from Fingal Rowers and 89th Bremore Scouts.

In accordance with section 179 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) and Part 8 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 (as amended), Fingal County Council hereby gives notice of the proposed development to be carried out at the following site:

'Proposed conservation refurbishment and sustainable re-use of the existing, historic Bath House and Boathouse, and associated slipways, both identified as a Protected Structure Ref. RPS 0018, located at a 0.07 ha site at King Strand, off Bath Road, Tankardstown, Balbriggan, Co. Dublin.'

The plan is on public display from Thursday 17th September until Thursday 15th October.
