⚽️⚽️ The Richie Dwyer Over 35s League. ⚽️⚽️
On Friday night Arklow Celtic made the long trip down to the south of Wexford to take on last years Cup finalists Forth Celtic.
Due to 18 teams in this years over 35’s cup, Arklow Celtic were one of 4 teams that got drawn in the preliminary round of the Cup.
Unfortunately, due to many players with work commitments, injuries and on holidays Arklow Celtic travelled with a small squad to face Forth Celtic.
The home side started the game in a fast pace and made our defensive players work very hard from kick off. Their pressure paid off after 10 minutes when Forth Celtic were awarded a free kick outside the box. Arklow Celtic goalkeeper didn’t have the best start and unfortunately made an error to give the home side a one nil lead. The home side kept up their momentum and made it 2 nil half way through the first half with a bullet shot into the top corner. Forth Celtic got their 3rd just before half time giving them a huge advantage going into the break.
With Arklow Celtic making a few tactical changes at half time, they were looking to put in a better performance in the second half. Arklow Celtic started to get on the ball more and created several chances testing their keeper on numerous occasions. This eventually paid off with Edwin Walker finishing a great move and to give the away time a deserved goal. Despite the dominance of Arklow Celtic in the 2nd half, they found it hard to finish several great attacking plays with more goals.
Just before the final whistle as Arklow Celtic kept pushing forward, Forth Celtic won possession on the left wing sending in a cross which was finished by their oncoming striker to finish the game with a 4-1 win.
Both David Kavanagh (skinny) & David Moorehouse were the standout players for Arklow Celtic on this occasion.
Best of Luck to Forth Celtic for the rest of the League and Cup Campaign.
