Arklow United B 3-2 Glencormac B (AET)
UNITED ARE CIARAN BISHOP SHIELD CHAMPIONS
This evening saw the final ball kicked in the Division 3 season as United travelled up the N11 to play home side Glencormac. The Glen's started well when their attacker pounced on defensive indecision to slot home on 10 minutes. United started to play our passing game after that wake up call. Richie Neary was unlucky not to level the game on the 20 minute mark. He tried to round the keeper who gathered the ball safely. On the half hour, United got the equaliser that our play deserved. A free kick by Richie out near the corner flag found the head of Tom Connors, who fought off his man to send a bullet header into the back of the net. That's the way it stayed until half time. 2nd half started the same as the 1st finished, with United on top. After the 65th minute mark, United went ahead. After a moment of madness from their keeper, United were awarded a penalty. Up stepped Tom to slot it home. To their credit the Glen's pushed for an equaliser with 10 men and got it with 4 minutes to go when their substitute found the bottom corner with a cracking strike. Nothing keeper, Paddy Gannon, could do. Full time 2-2 with extra time to come. In the 2nd half of extra time United found the winner. Winger James McBride played substitute Sean Lawlor through and under pressure from a defender and their keeper he struck it home. United finished out the game and it finished 3-2 AET.
That's a wrap on senior football for the season. Thanks to Glencormac for the game today and the use of their facilities. Thanks to the Wicklow League for everything this season. And thanks to referee Dominic Lachaussee and linesmen Carl Doyle and Joe Byrne today.
Man of the match (as picked by league representatives): Tom Connors
