Many of you will know by now that Alex Alsop, a long serving member of the Wolverhampton RUFC player community passed away last week. It is with the deepest regret this news is brought to you.

An inevitable sense of shock and disbelief has washed over the Club community during this last week.

Alex’s tenure at Wolverhampton is in excess of 30 years, notably as a player through 1XV, 2XV, 3XV and the Vets teams. Generations of players and non-players have been influenced by Alex which makes his impact on our Club community inextricable from the community itself. Over those 30 years, Alex forged a number of close friendships and many of them have memorialised him with solemn and emotional tributes - testament to the reputation of the man. Despite the changes in Alex’s personal life in recent years, it is some comfort that his sense of belonging did not waver and so he had decided to play with us for the coming Season, a likely final hurrah that tragically we will now miss.

Alex, is remembered as a kind-hearted attentive gentleman, and a dedicated Clubman who was often willing to do the unglamorous work that goes on behind the scenes of any functioning outfit.

He is survived by his two children, the adornments of his life.

Our thoughts are with all of Alex’s family, his fellow Club Patrons and the members of the wider and extensive rugby community who knew him.

Tonight’s game will be preceded by a Commemorative Silence in Alex’s honour and in due course arrangements for his Memorial Game on 6th March 2027 will be announced.
