Lily update:
Afternoon all. Hope you’re all well and having fun this bank holiday weekend. Me ‘n’ Lil have been working early (ish) before the sun gets too hot and she has been going from strength to strength, I can’t stop smiling 😊 I have taken to having a bash at that ‘liberty’ malarkey that everyone keeps carping on about and madam has been really focused in the indoor so I thought we’d progress to the outdoor with a few more distractions 😣 All was working beautifully until we tried trotting on the right rein. T rot, I said in my best ‘I know what I’m doing’ trainers voice, she just looked at me and rolled her eyes 🙄 T rot, I said again and wafted the lead rope in her general direct (I have actually got a flag but can’t bring myself to be seen in public with it) 😆……………….. She squealed, leapt, squealed, leapt, squealed again and set off like Shergar, doing the wall of death around the arena 🫣 After several circuits bucking and squealing she was pooped and in a muck sweat so to cool off I thought we’d just do a little bit of walk work. She was quite happy - for about 30 seconds - then suddenly set off to the other end of the arena and threw herself on the floor (I thought she was having some sort of ‘episode’ for a split second 😂)………………… and rolled and rolled and rolled ………. (You get the drift) stood up, marched over to me and demanded polo’s (she knows exactly where I keep them). In conclusion, I don’t think we’re cut out to be dedicated flag wavers but my goodness we both have a lot of fun and keep the dog walkers entertained in the process. My little princess makes me smile all day, every day (almost) and every day I love her just a wee bit more 🥰🥰
P.S. There is a trainer who’s posts pop up on my feed regularly (know idea why as I’m not a fan) who says we must not reward our horses with treats but we praise them with connection (touching them) only 🤦♀️ There are thousands of others who say, nay scream, LISTEN TO YOUR HORSE (along with a lot of expletives 🫢) when said horse maybe bucks, or naps, or generally throws a strop. I would just like to say that if I ‘listened’ to Lil every time she did something non robotic we’d never get out of the stable and certainly wouldn’t have got very far without copious packets of polo’s, carrots and apples, and to all those keyboard experts yes, I pat my horse too - shock, horror - so my advice is do what suits you and your pony to give yourselves a happy stress free life xx
