There’s a danger in writing about a course like Royal Troon Golf Club ⛳️
A danger that every adjective has already been exhausted, every hole dissected, every nuance celebrated by writers far better and more qualified than myself. What else can someone possibly say about this illustrious course that hasn’t already been written? It has hosted Opens, crowned champions, broken hearts and humbled the finest players in the world. Its reputation throughout golf is untouchable. Yet walking down those fairways, playing the Postage Stamp, or holing my final putt in front of the distinctive clubhouse, I could not help but feel truly honoured to have played such a revered links ⛳️
Perhaps that is ultimately why Royal Troon remains so revered. Not because it is historic, or due to all the memorable moments it has brought to golf. Not because it is visually pleasing, though it possesses a rugged, understated links beauty that one will never justifiably explain in words. It endures because its architecture is timeless. It challenges the mind before the body. It rewards imagination over aggression. It asks golfers to think. It remains honest and fair ⛳️
So what else can someone possibly say about this illustrious course? Simply this, Royal Troon does not need to keep pace with modern golf. For maybe modern golf should be following the lessons of Royal Troon ⛳️
