We hear this all the time…

“I don’t know how I’m putting weight on I hardly eat”

Starvation mode is a concept that is still doing the rounds and as with anything, there’s a tiny grain of truth to this idea.

But essentially, as you get smaller, you require less energy at rest. Nothing to do with your metabolism slowing down or eating too little calories so your body holds onto fat.

If that was true, we’d have people starving in the world who were all obese, which isn’t happening.

It often comes down to adherence. If someone is trying to eat 1200 calories but they are flying well over that consistently, then increasing their calories to a range they can actually stick to over time is going to mean they can actually lose weight successfully, purely because they are able to adhere to it!

Nothing to do with being in starvation mode before.

Trust me, there is no shame in believing these things to be true. Social media can be very compelling and I’ve definitely believed loads of myths and misinformation in the past!

The great thing about training here is that you also get access to nutrition support, via Emma, Q&A’s, nutrition modules, recipe books and consultation!

It’s often people’s beliefs around nutrition that hold them back not what they just put in their mouth.

Sometimes the most difficult thing about the gym is getting through the door 🚪

Often the door Is the heaviest weight!!!

If you’re not going to the gym and want to be, how long have you been thinking about going?

Should you avoid liquid calories?

A lot of people ask me what my thoughts are on liquid calories, including protein shakes and whether I think these are a good idea.

I think there are certain situations where grabbing a protein shake is a really good idea!

Not all “liquid calories” are created equal and actually they can be a helpful way making sure you are eating something to avoid overeating later and they’re also great to help you hit your protein target.

Hope you find this helpful! Nutrition is rarely a yes or no answer. It depends on the individual 💛💪🏻

Happy 9th Birthday to Squad…

It’s easy to forget how it all started, those early years were all about learning on the job, Squad was built from nothing and after 3 years it was way bigger than I ever imagined!!

Thought I’d dig some old pics out to commemorate 🤣

It was just an idea that I ran with and it worked.

In reality it seemed hard to start with but you have the underdog mentality, blind nativity and the growth just keeps you going!!!

It’s much harder what comes after, growing a business means constantly evolving!

And we had to, COVID was the game changer most businesses didn’t survive.

I was told 100 times, I’d make more money online and it was safer. That might be true but I’d not enjoy it so what’s the point.

I’d miss dealing with roofs falling in during sessions and repeating myself all the time 🤣

There’s been multiple moves sometimes forced, changes in business model to stay ahead of the game and making decisions that not only impact you but your staff too!

It’s a different kind of pressure being responsible for others and having overheads that are crazy numbers!!!

But throughout the years our standards haven’t dropped, we haven’t diluted what we are and we’ve always done what’s best for SQUAD even if meant short term pain.

We say it all the time but the part that makes me most proud is the community we’ve built.

People feel part of it and that’s what I felt was missing when I use to go to gyms.

A bit of life! Squad is a place people want to come to (most of the time).

I got out of bed at 5.15am this morning for session and was excited, checking who’s on, going over the session and 100% happy to be there!!

Same buzz I use to get 9 years ago, that tells you all you need to know.

9 years have gone like a flash, so a massive thank you to everyone who’s been a part of the journey, members, coaches, mentors and mates!

10 year old birthday we are throwing the most insane party ever and you’re all invited!
