Welcome to the official page for Walsall Rugby Football Club.

Walsall RFC is an amateur club, established in 1922 by a group of 33 enthusiasts who paid 5s a year subscription. In 1931 the club moved to its present location, into an old wartime building which still exists despite three facelifts that have occurred since that time. The Club now runs three senior sides that regularly play on Saturday afternoons, the first team playing in Midlands 1 West. We have an extremely busy Mini and Junior Section that play and train on Sundays from Under 7's - Colts; plus our Baby Bears (Under 6's) who train and learn the game every Sunday.

Here is your 2nd XV who will play Harborne tomorrow.

Our 2nd XV were frustrated with their loss last Saturday against Handsworth, and are keen to return to winning ways tomorrow. We are sure it will be a competitive encounter and we want lots of Walsall support cheering them.

The club will be open from 1pm and the game kicks off at 3pm - please come down and support.

Come on Walsall!

▪︎1ST XV MATCH DAY SQUAD▪︎

Here is your 1st XV who will take on Sutton tomorrow.

Our 1st XV are going into this match off the back of a brilliant win and are determined to bring that level of performance to tomorrow's match. Historically, the matches against Sutton have always been physical, hard-fought affairs and tomorrow will be no different.

The game is being played away and kick off is 3pm - please travel and give the boys your support.

Come on Walsall!

▪︎RUGBY AGAINST CANCER▪︎

We are thrilled to be supporting Rugby Against Cancer and their upcoming initiative "Rugby Against Cancer Sock Takeover!"

Rugby Against Cancer supports those within the rugby community affected by Cancer and whilst they know they are never going to find a cure, they want to give people hope and let them know there are people supporting them every step of the way.

The "Rugby Against Cancer Sock Takeover" is one way in which they do this and one we are excited to be supporting. On the weekend of the 6th February, we want as many of our players, from the mini and junior teams to our seniors to be wearing their socks.

If you’d like to join this fantastic initiative and buy a pair of the socks, please pay at the bar and let us know the size and colour you require. When they arrive, they will be given to you and you can wear them on the weekend of 6th February for to show our support!

▪︎U11'S MATCH REPORT▪︎

On Sunday, our U11s travelled to Kings Norton, just a few players short of a full squad. Thankfully, Kings Norton had some extra players available, so we were able to borrow a few to even up the sides and ensure all the kids got equal game time.

Having players from different teams can sometimes disrupt the flow of a game, but that certainly wasn't the case on Sunday! The Walsall boys were fantastic, showing how the experience gained the previous week had really paid off. There was no selfish play, with the ball being passed around the pitch brilliantly and some fantastic tackles going in along the way.

A huge thank you to Kings Norton and their players for being so accommodating, swapping around and embracing the spirit of the game. It's great to see everyone working together to ensure the kids' enjoyment remains the main priority.

This week's Players of the Week:
Coaches' Player – Reuben
Reuben stepped his game up a gear this week, putting in a brilliant performance with some fantastic runs and outstanding effort throughout.

Parents' Player – Kenzo
Kenzo gave his usual 100% effort, making some brilliant zigzag runs through the opposition and always being happy to hold the fort at the back as our last line of defence. What a shift!

Well done to Reuben, Kenzo and all our U11's for a fantastic effort.

▪︎COLTS MATCH REPORT▪︎

On Sunday the Colts played away at Malvern, we lost 38-17…but that doesn’t even tell half the story!

Malvern are undefeated, having beaten Ledbury who beat us by 50 points, and we had various players missing which resulted in us starting the game with only 2 subs and no front row cover.

We scored first with an incredible team try, clearly surprising Malvern with our aggressive defence and continuity in attack. Some stand out tackling from players such as Eddie, George, and Logan, really led the way. It was also great to welcome Henry back - his dynamic style of play is brilliant to watch.

Half time came, with us just behind, 12 points to 7…

However our loose head prop had to go off which was such a shame as Hayden was having a great game! This meant uncontested scrums, and Malvern choosing to enforce the rule where we went down to 14 men…
In the words of Malvern’s Director of Rugby, ‘you are giving us a scare!’

Walsall did not give up, still scoring 2 more tries against the 15 men of Malvern! The fact that Malvern felt they needed to play against 14 men is the biggest compliment the boys can get, they were amazing!

For this reason the whole team are nominated as players of the match!

Well Done Boys!
