Success at the British Youth Championships
Five talented Polwhele fencers qualified for this year’s British Youth Championships—an outstanding achievement in itself. The event, the largest since the pandemic, took place at the England Institute of Sport in Sheffield over the May Bank Holiday weekend and brought together some of the finest young fencers from across the country.
Heading into the competition, our fencers set themselves ambitious goals, and they rose to the challenge magnificently. Each competitor faced tough opposition, showing resilience, determination, and real sporting spirit throughout.
In the Under 12 Boys’ Foil, Will delivered a personal best, winning two rounds of DE and finishing 31st out of 82 fencers. In the Under 12 Girls’ Foil, both Georgina and Elise came up against tough first rounds and then rallied to fence superbly in the DE, securing 32nd and 29th places respectively from a field of 48 competitors. In a highly competitive boys’ event, Henry and Josh also battled hard, finishing 75th and 92nd out of 116.
Every one of our fencers exceeded expectations, overcoming personal challenges and gaining invaluable experience on a national stage. We are incredibly proud of their effort, attitude, and achievements.

🏆 Huge Congratulations to Elise! 🏆

We are thrilled to share some fantastic news from the piste! While it might not be our "typical" club weapon, Elise showed incredible versatility and skill by taking home the Gold Medal in the U12 Girls Sabre at Truro Fencing Club today! 🥇⚔️

It’s a brilliant achievement, and we are so proud of how she represented Polwhele House School.

Well done, Elise—your hard work and adaptability are truly inspiring! 👏✨

A fantastic five from Polwhele fenced at this years South West Age Group, and the fantastic five are going to Sheffield for the British Youth Champs to represent the South West!

This term’s Fight Night, The Sword in the Crust, is a Poule Unique, with fights spread over the next few weeks. We decided to begin with just a single piste, so that we could properly induct our four new fencers. Over the next few weeks we'll add pistes until all the fights are complete.

Seven talented foilists proudly represented Polwhele Fencing at the Westley Junior Foil competition over the holidays. This year’s event was held at Blundell’s School in Tiverton, and it was a superb day of fencing enjoyed by all.

Fantastic competition today, with pupils from three schools taking part! Polwhele House School managed to retain the Cornwall School's Foil Cup for another year, with Truro School Sport coming in second. The Kingsley Devon competitor lives in Cornwall so she was able to take part. A great competition, and a huge thank you to our army of adult volunteers who make these events possible.
