When we dare to dream…

The first time you unrolled a yoga mat, the moment your retreat was confirmed, the insight you found during meditation, the recognition that a mindful moment changed your response…

Since my early 20’s I have been moving forward from that first yoga class ~ a slow advance towards a sustainable practice of mindfulness and yoga. Yes, it does contribute towards a healthy body and clear mind yet, for me, it’s my outlook that has shifted. My response to change, the understanding of how to deeply listen and how to ride with the discomfort of living.

And this is it! Stepping into purchasing a home, offering adventures far and wide, putting myself into studentship, taking mindful moments in nature. They all offer a way in to living this life fully by being present to all that is.

Taking time to reflect on this each Sunday allows me to keep moving forward, to listen to what is needed and what can be released - creating a sense of flow…

Happy Sunday my friends - I am excited to welcome in a new week with you.

I shared the first line of this poem by Danna Faulds on a recent retreat - the first line resonated with so many of us and it became a gentle reminder all week…

“Who you are is so much more than what you do.”

It also became a prompt, a question and discussion. IF I am so much more than what I do then who am I?

And what is it that I do to prioritise that over who I am…

This is part of the magic of taking ourself away to retreat, to find quiet time, to chat to like-minded souls and discover moments, words and ideas to help us connect back to our own self.

Each year I take focused time off to rest, reflect and retreat and alway, always take a notebook with me for questions and contemplations such as this.

In 2023 I went to Morocco with my dear friend Wendy to visit the beautiful Bab Zouina.

An easy drive from the airport and we were welcomed by Karim and his amazing team. In the few days that followed we experienced the most wonderful hospitality, took in rooftop sunsets, wandered gorgeous gardens, sat in quiet sit spots, and slept so well in gorgeous rooms.

In the days that followed we spent time in the vibrancy of Marrakech with its busy souks, delicious tagines and beautiful riads.

I am excited to be returning in May 2027 for our fourth retreat and you are invited! There is so much here to explore and yet it also invites you to deeply relax - the daily yoga, afternoons by the pool and always a cup of Moroccan tea and delightful biscuit when needed!

Got a question or want to know more? You can drop me a DM or email at [email protected]. It’s a brilliant adventure with friends and wonderful to also join as a solo traveller!

Thank you 🧡

Where will your day take you when yoga retreating in Luang Prabang, Laos?

Our beautiful venue, the Luang Prabang View Hotel always creates a wonderful start with a beautiful breakfast and a beautiful smile! Perhaps a poolside cappuccino post yoga or a leisurely stroll for an afternoon massage at the onsite spa (which is EXCELLENT!)…

Your day may take you further afield to visit the Mandalao Elephant Sanctuary or a gentle stroll through beautiful temples passing cute cafes, shops and expansive views of the river…

There are many possibilities - staying on site, visiting waterfalls, relaxing, and so much more.

I hope you can join me on our Laos Retreat!

Treasures ~ I packed them all carefully before I moved and over the weekend unpacked them to select what could go where. A bright little bird from teaching in Mexico, Ganesha from the first Em Yoga Retreat to India, a hand carved kiwi bird from my travels in New Zealand and a little owl from Paros, Greece and lots of memories of people met, retreats taught, sunny beaches and blissful temples…

Gathering our treasures, our memories, our stories is a way of staying in touch which what is important to each of us. Then recognising that our work, on this path of yoga, is ultimately about letting them all go!

For now some have found a home on a shelf, as part of the altar and some still waiting their home 🧡

Much of my classes, writings, retreats come from these memories, stories, experiences and combined with learnings from yoga I hope to create a steady space for you to also practice in.

Let’s jump into June, grateful for what we have and what is yet to come 🙂

June 2026: Grateful for All I Have

This is the title of the newsletter that went out today…

I write about the sense of dreaminess that Spring has let me drop into - the sun, the birds, the vibrancy and all after an intense period of beautiful and brilliant work to bring forward ideas and dreams….

I note, in my newsletter, about a wonderful quote I read recently:

“What you risk reveals what you value.” - Jeanette Winterson

And how this has both helped and encouraged me to make decisions based on what I value at Em Yoga - from the quality of your sleep on a retreat to choosing a beautifully designed yoga studio for our daily practice.

Beneath all of this though I write about my deep sense of being grateful ~ grateful for the fact I get to do this, to host classes online, to create retreat experiences, to sit and listen to the birds.

As we step into June I am thankful too for you all here, sharing your stories and ideas, inspirations and joys. Social media also offers me up new venues, new adventures, moments of inspiration and laughter. No matter how we connect, whatever the weather…I am grateful for it all 🙂

As I soak up the sunshine here in Edinburgh I can feel the pull towards the gorgeous heat of summer!

There is nothing I like better than to carve out precious time for myself to rest every now and again and this is why I love places like the 🧡

The retreat experience here is not only on the mat and in the gorgeous yoga space…it is in the walks with all the gorgeous animals in their fields, it is in our interactions with each other at meals, the moments soaking in the hot tub or taking a blissful massage. Perhaps the gong bath or the sweet moment noticing everyone’s discarded shoes on the way to breakfast…

I hope you can join me this summer ~ it’s so worth it 🧡

The Tree Retreat Relaxation Centre 🧡

I first visited this amazing place many years ago now and it is the home of my first ever Em Yoga hosted retreat way back in 2017 (I think!)

I knew as soon as I arrived that it was perfect ~ it aligns so well with my values and hopes for a yoga retreat. Surrounded by nature, a beautiful yoga space, comfortable rooms that you want to spend time in, brilliant massage treatments…

Not to mention the wonderful team, glorious hot tub, cold plunge pool, fire pit and so much more 🌳. It truly is a home from home for me and many guests who have been many times over the past 9 years.

Last October 100% of guests rebooked before even leaving the venue and this is testament to how much brilliance, rest and joy can be found and created here.

The 2027 retreat calendar is on its way - in the meantime though why don’t you join me here in August! October and November are full and this is a rare chance to treat yourself to a blissful weekend here and in the summer months too!

Head to www.emyoga.co.uk for your yoga retreat and I look forward to seeing you there!

End of week reflections & highlights ☺️

A beautiful week back in East Yorkshire.

~ a gorgeous Friday night gathering, 18 of us for a wonderful evening of yoga and delicious food.

~ time with family. Days out, no alarm set, 1% club (love it!) and time to really catch up.

~ caught up with the brilliant for a 1-2-1 💪🏽 and soaked up the sunshine with 3 x 10km’s

~ spend time catching up online and working with the super .lauren I am so excited for the next six months!

My biggest reflection is that even with a long list of to-do’s it’s important to take time to do things other than work and to also feed creativity into my work - to head out on a run, to enjoy my yoga practice, to chat to family, to watch tv and to rest….

I hope you have had a wonderful week and look forward to seeing you next week!

Moving through January, I've been reminded how much my yoga and mindfulness practice gives me far beyond the mat. There will always be moments that challenge us, create doubt in our minds and shake our sense of certainty, yet every time I return to a pose, to my breath, towards stillness, I feel something quietly rebuilding - a sense of steadiness, trust and patience.

As we move through 2026, I'm feeling more and more that it's these small, consistent moments that become the foundations we walk through life with.
Not perfect. Not rigid. Just steady, supportive, and there when we need them.

Strong foundations aren't built in a day - they are both built and tested in moments like these.

This is the spirit behind Find Your Foundations and Build Your Brilliance this year - both created through my own experience of cultivating strength, awareness and steadiness through yoga, mindfulness and breathwork. They're here not only to help us build our foundations, but to return to them with ease whenever life asks us to.

I would love to see you there.
