Friday 11th September Club Run
As the Autumn continues but we are determined to stay on the trails it needs to be a route where by the time it is dusk we are back on tarmac! So this route heads from the Link through Lydiard Park towards Lydiard MIllicent then back through Chestnut Springs and across the fields to Peatmoor and back - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46572025 Head out to Lydiard Park. Follow the normal "parkrun" route out and down the long back straight. Go straight on through the gate at the corner and follow the path across the fields and along the edge of Lydiard Millicent take the gate to lead into Forge Fields then head straight down to The Street. Straight over into Chestnut Springs, left, right then follow to the end and round to the path. Halfway down the path there is a split through the hedge into the field (which avoids most of the nettles. Follow to the right round the edge of the field until you get to the gap to cross the stream. Once across the field bear up hill slightly and to the left to come out onto the drive to Westhills Lodge. Straight on across the drive then follow the path into the next field then take the path to the right and follow it across two small paddocks onto Washpool lane almost opposite the end of Old Shaw Lane, along it to the cut through to bring you back onto Shaw Ridge and home.
This is a group run, you will not be left behind.
Meet outside the 'Harvey'; beside the Link (West Swindon District Centre) from 6:30 for 6:45pm run. (Remember that Ashington Way is dug up until the end of the month so you need to approach the Link from Whitehill Way (although you can still go all the way round Corton Crescent)

AI & socials can be fun at times! Thank you, MJ Dickdock for creating this image of Striders chair, Mark Jones, & just a small selection of our Friday crew! It all started with us putting stickers of missing regulars on our post-run photo, & has led to this! 😆 We’ve got running goals, even if, realistically, we may not make it to the Olympics! 💪🏻💪🏻🦾🦾

Friday 4th September Club Run
A route we haven't done for a while but a simple one! Head across towards Barnfield, turn left up the old railway line, all the way to Thamesdown Drive. Left/Right through the underpass and follow up the old Purton Road to the top of Ridgeway Farm. Follow the old road (now cycle path) to Swinley Drive and follow down to Peatmoor Lagoon. Do a clockwise circuit of it (or to cut off a bit just go across the W. end of the lagoon, then follow the track parallel to Roughmoor Way round the back of Brookfield Primary school to the lights on Cartwright Drive. Across to old Shaw Lane then either left/right and wind your way onto the end of Shaw Ridge and back or continue all the way up Old Shaw Lane and come back via Ridge Green and past Shaw Ridge School https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40707431
This is a group run, you will not be left behind.
Meet outside the 'Harvey'; beside the Link (West Swindon District Centre) from 6:30 for 6:45pm run.

Pinch, punch….Happy September running, Everyone! Just to cheer you up (with back to work and schools going back upon us 😬🤯), here are some photos of our colourful bunch on our Bank Holiday run yesterday (minus our walkers). Pete Gilder guided us on a magical mystery tour from Sally Pussey's Inn along country lanes, the canal & across bumpy fields. Even the railway crossing welcomed us with a (Striders) green light 🚦 Some juicy blackberries en route whetted the appetite before a hearty & lively brunch at the pub afterwards. Perfect 👌🏻

“Listen to your body” as my yoga instructors have always told me 😇 Well, it turns out my feet and legs (on verge of injury) were crying out for a new pair of running trainers, & I knew I deserved to treat myself to a proper gait analysis & some trainers that suit my over-pronation (basically “flat feet”). Liam and Tracy RUN Swindon have delivered, & I can honestly say my injury is now on the mend with the right new trainers 😅😅 And they do discount for Striders members. Shop local, Everyone! (Credit also to Emily Allbon who came along for advice too)

Striders, Seven Fields parkrun & Swindon’s running community paying respects to Skillett & family this morning was a very touching experience. He’d hoped to do one last one run there, so we ran in force in his honour. The crowd gathered, even in school holidays (with many people away who would have wanted to be join us) was testament to how loved he was. 🥰 He was always supporting others. His family did him very proud 🤩

Remembering a brilliant and inspiring Strider, Keiron Skillett, who very sadly lost his battle with Pacreatic Cancer this week. He’d hoped to enter one final Parkrun at his favourite one: Sevenfields. 😔 Please join us there tomorrow morning, wearing green, his favourite colour (and our club colours too) @09:00💚 RIP Keiron - you were a fantastic runner and club member, and we’ll really miss you 💚🥰 🕊️ 🌟

Friday 14th August Club Run
"I know how much you enjoyed last week's exploration of Wichelstowe, so let's find a different bit! Over time this may become a more well trodden route with plenty more variations. But currently is a trail and path route of West Wichel.
From the Link head to Mannington Retail Park, along the path/cycle trail beside Gt Western Way ('The Trim Trail') to the bridge over the railway. Cross the bridge then turn right and then keep right following the path whihc follows beside the railway. Just before the M4 there is an option to cut across to the road, otherwise follow beside the railway underneath the M4 then turn left back to the Wichelstowe road. Turn left again and follow the road back to Wichelstowe. At Wichelstowe Trails, (just after Orchard View), take the track to go back uner the railway and then retrace your steps to the Link. - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/56639765"
This is a group run, you will not be left behind.
Meet outside the 'Harvey'; beside the Link (West Swindon District Centre) from 6:30 for 6:45pm run.
