Now’s the time to ask Andy Burnham for clarity on key issues as he stands for an election that could lead to him standing for the Labour Leadership and therefore our Prime Minister.

I really like this letter drafted by ‘We Own It’ for its positive tone - acknowledging Burnham’s achievements in Manchester at putting public services under public control, - but is also making the case for, and detailing the arguments and strategies for, full public ownership of key resources such as water and asking his position on these.

In my opinion Makerfield is a rare ‘tipping point’ election (think Brexit) where the result could be a turning point either towards restoring the integrity, accountability and electability of the Labour Party / UK government or tipping us into an even steeper slide towards a far right Reform victory at the next General Election.

“What Noble Losers tend to forget is that every successful coalition is a pact among people who disagree on any number of things” Rutger Bregman.

Public control is not public ownership. Andy Burnham must clarify that he backs public ownership of life's essentials.
