🚨 NEXT UP | LADIES 🚨

A third consecutive home game presents itself this coming Sunday, this time against Nottingham Trent University FC Pink.

The Zebras stepped up to claim top spot in the early league table with a victory last time out, but now face the immediate challenge of retaining that position.

That first challenge comes very quickly with Nottingham Trent University FC Pink, who will be a very strong contender to deflate the ambitions and aspirations of Southwell City FC Ladies.

The opposition are expected to pose a very different challenge than their last outing, so the Zebras will have to be at their absolute sharpest to deliver another complete performance to keep hold of top spot.

A dominant home performance sees the Zebras leap to the top of the early league table!

With other teams on County Cup duty, Southwell capitalised in style. Starting brightly, the early pressure paid off when Lois Harris tapped in from close range to open the scoring. Soon after, Laya Fox doubled the lead with a brilliant 25-yard strike.

After a brief quiet spell, Southwell upped the ante once more. Laya Fox hit her second stunning long-range effort of the afternoon, floating the ball over the keeper into the back of the net.

Minutes later, 16-year-old Sofia Boothroyd got in on the action, unleashing her own long-range screamer to make it 4–0.

Heidi Rothwell thought she’d added a fifth before the break with a sublime first-time volley into the top corner, only to be denied by the offside flag.

Lowdham put up a spirited fight early in the second half, making Southwell work hard to maintain control. But as the visitors tired, the Zebras struck.

Katie Garfoot produced a outstanding solo effort, carrying the ball from her own half and beating multiple defenders before finishing from 25 yards out herslef.

Emily Boaler then pressed high to win the ball on the right byline, setting up Harris for her second tap-in of the match.

Boaler was finally rewarded for her relentless work rate minutes later, intercepting a defensive pass to slot home and wrap up an emphatic win.

A tough result for the young Zebras, who fell just short of putting more points on the board after a hard-fought performance.

Southwell took an early lead in a fiercely contested match, but a mix of quality play and a stroke of luck swung the game back in Radcliffe's favor. While a few missed chances from range could have changed the outcome, there was no shortage of heart on display.

At this stage, it’s all about development. Every match is an opportunity to learn, grow, and build confidence for the future—and these girls continue to show incredible promise!

Just as our Ladies team gets underway, so too do the Under 18 Zebras.

This season marks the start of a stronger link between the U18s and our Ladies squad, creating a clear pathway into open-age football at Southwell City FC for all our talented young players. Moving forward, we'll be documenting their journey alongside the Ladies' season to highlight and strengthen that connection.

The young Zebras kicked off their campaign in style with an emphatic 9-1 victory over Silva FC U18 Southglade Warriors. They followed that up with an entertaining 11-goal thriller, unfortunately coming up just short in a 7-4 loss against Meden Vale Colts FC U18 Girls.

Next up, the U18s face Radcliffe Olympic FC U18 Girls as they look to make it two wins from three!

As one game finishes, another one is very quickly on the horizon.

With Southwell City FC getting a bye in the first round of the County Cup and Lowdham FC not entering, Southwell City FC Ladies will be welcoming Lowdham FC Ladies to the Centenary Sports Ground in a game that has been bought forward.

The Zebras will be looking to build on their 4 points earned so far this season from their first two games, whilst Lowdham will be looking to get their first points of the season on the board having lost their season opener.

The Zebras arrived at their first home game of the season eager to prove a point following a disappointing draw the previous week. The pre-match directive was clear: start strong, maintain the intensity, and see the game through. The squad delivered on all fronts.

Southwell City FC set the tempo early, putting Priory Celtic under immediate pressure. The opening goal came when Chloe Hobson was played through; though her initial shot was saved, Emily Boaler was on hand to turn in the rebound for 1-0.

The lead doubled shortly after when Anna Kessler picked out Hobson with a superb cross-field pass behind the Priory defence, which Hobson converted cleanly. Southwell continued to dictate play and create chances, taking a comfortable 2-0 lead into the break.

A halftime reminder to avoid the previous week's slip-up ensured the team restarted with intent. Early in the second half, Hope Barnes sent a ball over the top for Chloe Hobson to chase down and finish, sealing her brace and making it 3-0.

Hope Barnes then turned goal scorer herself, unleashing a brilliant strike from over 25 yards into the top-left corner. With a 4-0 cushion, Southwell utilized their bench to give valuable minutes to the squad, including a club debut in goal for Frankie Dix.

Priory Celtic pulled two late goals back—one from a converted penalty and another on the counter as fatigue set in—making the final score 4-2.

Despite the late consolation goals, it was a dominant response and a strong overall performance. With 4 points from their opening two matches, Southwell City FC Ladies turn their attention to next week as they host Lowdham FC Ladies at the Centenary Ground.
