SPFit Personal training, small group strength training, yoga, circuits and a bootcamp in Sherborne. This is typically off road so we run on multi-terrain surfaces.

Our Running Club is led by a qualified personal trainer and the sessions are designed to improve your performance while having fun at the same time. We run sessions which range from a gentle run at a constant pace to specific sessions to improve speed and stamina such as interval and hill training. We also use the "out and back method" so our faster members and slower members are challenged equall

y. We typically run around 8km but the faster runners will run further using the above method. In the winter we run on the roads but as soon as the evenings get lighter we like to get out of Sherborne into the fantastic surrounding countryside. Training sessions are held every Tuesday evening and we meet at about 18:00 ready to start at 18:15. The sessions last 1 hour. We meet at a pre-determined place each week which is agreed by the members the previous week. The cost of membership is £20 per quarter.

“Future Proofing” is a really popular topic right now, but what does it really mean to you?

To us it means, "I want to be as strong and flexible as I possibly can be as I get older."

And no doubt, you have read or been told you "should" be doing strength training. We know that. Simon has been shouting about the benefits for both men and women of ALL ages for over 30 years now.

And maybe you would much rather be walking, cycling, swimming or doing pilates? But many of you still know that you should be going “SOMEWHERE” to do strength training.

All the above activities are really good for so many reasons for both our physical and mental health so keep doing them, especially if you enjoy doing them. Simon loves his yoga (at least 3 x a week) which is one of the reasons he became a “broga” teacher!

But they are NOT great for building muscle, toning up or strengthening bones.

And this is what we REALLY NEED as we get older.

Having strong and healthy muscles will also help us KEEP doing these activities and everything in our DAILY LIFE, so we can enjoy them for longer.

FOR F***S SAKE........

If last year was my "annus horribulus" to use the words of our late great queen, then so is this one already.

So this is just a quick UPDATE to say there will be no "social media promo" offer for 3 free personal training sessions with Linda this week and I will be temporarily ceasing all our social media content as of now.

Tina's mum suffered a back injury, and now my colleague and best friend has been taken into hospital as well seriously ill.

From Wednesday, I will also be taking a break from coaching to spend more time with both of them.

Linda will now be super busy trying to find room in her diary to coach many of my clients in my absence.

Historically, I have always put my business first, often understandably angering Tina in the process.

But no more. I hope you all agree we should always put our friends and family first?

On a positive SPFit note, I have been researching all over the Christmas period and deep in demos these last 2 weeks to find an App based solution to completely revolutionise our members experience here from signing up, paying and most importantly, booking in your sessions and even how we all communicate with each other to name but a few benefits so please watch this space for future developments.

There will also be an email going out to her clients/our members as soon as possible with an update on Kate's medical situation once we are in a position to clarify what is happening. In the meantime, she appreciates that you will want to wish her well but is currently too exhausted to respond to individuals and hopes you understand.

FRIDAY is when I get personal about my friends and family. Three young people Sam, Will and Leonie are going to run the Plymouth Half Marathon in memory of Rach, Sam’s f***ing amazing mum. I make no apology for the *** because that is what she was.

They are raising money for the incredible charity, St Luke’s Hospice, Plymouth.

I don’t think I have ever been to or seen such an amazing place. And I mean the building, the facilities, the garden, the staff, doctors, nurses and volunteers.

I am still not sure which emotion I have the most, anger or sadness, as I think back to the suffering Rach endured without ever complaining. Even in the chemo ward, she would ask me how my business was going……rather than answer me about how much pain she was in.

Anyway, if you are able to donate anything at all to help these 3 VERY IMPRESSIVE “kids” hopefully ensure that St Luke’s can continue to care for more people that will sadly need its help in the future, I will be forever grateful to you.

Our women's strength courses work…………….why?

Don’t just believe what I say!

Read the screenshot of a WhatsApp that Helen sent me, she started one of Linda’s women's small group training courses last year, 2025.

I have to say she and her friend Gina have completely taken on board what Linda coached them.

And to see them training on their own now with their own training programs, confident, safe, having fun and getting stronger is exactly why Linda is not only so good at delivering these courses but also precisely why I set up SPFit over 10 years ago.

So well done to Linda but also well done to Gina and Helen who have stuck at it and progressed so much.

What is next for these two ladies…

7 days ago we ventured “over the border” to see how a wonderful village in Somerset celebrate New Year’s day

We were invited to join in by the lovely staff at the Ship Inn where we had a fantastic meal and fun the night before - New Year’s eve.

At a time when I have been genuinely saddened by seeing so much “anger” everywhere, I was struck by the genuine warmth, friendliness, smiles, laughter and real “community” by everyone there.

I am not expressing an opinion on hunting here so please do NOT use this as a forum to do so either.

And many thanks to The Castle and its staff who provided all the delicious refreshments, again so generous to one and all.

But as Wednesday is my fun day, as much as I loved all the friendly people I want to say a special thank you to each of the hounds who came up and gave me lots of “loves and kisses” and enjoyed me stroking them no matter how many times my terrier tried to bite every one of them.

Let’s hope we all have lots more fun in 2026.

This is NOT ANOTHER bloody new year’s resolution solution…

Ladies please do not be put off by all the “stuff” we are being bombarded with right now - it’s the same every year, isn't it?

And it’s not that difficult to be different - if you think you have failed after Christmas. It’s a ridiculous message. You have NOT!

You do NOT need another bloody “reset” or be told that you “lack discipline”.

But you do need a coach like LINDA who can help you formulate a plan that works for the REST of your life, both before, during and after Christmas, when life is busy and when it’s quiet and no matter what it throws at you.

This will be even more effective if you can meet other ladies like you who can become really good friends and then you can support each other through EVERYTHING.

You just need a little bit of “magic” from our coach Linda and a team around you to have fun together if you all get fitter, stronger and healthier together…..at your own pace.

Have you seen that she is starting another Ladies Strength 6 week course from Friday 16 January?

And remember not just for the new year, but all year round, every year!

But we haven't forgotten about the men either - our new coach Quinn is also going to be starting small group training sessions to spread his little bit of magic too. So watch this space.

Women of Sherborne……Do you want to start to get stronger but don’t know one end of a barbell from another?

Simon is starting the SPFit mission for 2026 with a little bit of “magic” from Linda

Our amazing coach Linda runs strength courses for women throughout the year. This is just NOT ANOTHER social media post that you see every January from the fitness industry.

Linda is super experienced at running courses for women who are complete beginners when it comes to weight lifting but know all about why strength training will benefit them.

So if you want to protect bone health, lose a bit of fat and feel great about yourself, then Linda is your lady!

She has designed a brilliant tried and tested 6 week course that will give you the KNOWLEDGE and the CONFIDENCE to use weights safely and effectively.

You will join her together with a small friendly group of women just like YOU in our private” gym” in Sherborne that has NO MIRRORS and NO EGOS. All our groups are limited to a maximum of 6 so they are truly small group training sessions, again something that is often claimed in the fitness industry.

Our next 6 week course starts on Friday 16 January. But if you cannot make Fridays, don’t worry, we don’t do new year’s resolutions so we will do our best to accommodate you in other courses.

We want to be different and we want you to be part of it - let Linda spread more of her MAGIC.
