ARE YOU TIRED ALL THE TIME? 🥱
You might be checking your thyroid… but have you checked your ferritin?
Ferritin is a marker of your body’s stored iron, and iron plays an important role in normal thyroid function.
Why does it matter?
Your thyroid produces mainly T4, which then needs to be converted into the more biologically active thyroid hormone T3.
Iron is also required for thyroid peroxidase (TPO) — an enzyme involved in making thyroid hormones.
So when iron stores are depleted, thyroid function may be affected and symptoms can overlap with those we commonly associate with an underactive thyroid:
• Fatigue and low energy
• Feeling cold
• Hair shedding
• Brain fog
• Poor exercise tolerance
• Weakness
• Difficulty concentrating
And here’s the important bit…
You can have a thyroid result that looks relatively “normal” on a basic TSH test and still have other things worth investigating.
If you’re experiencing persistent fatigue, looking at the bigger picture can be useful.
Blood tests to consider discussing with your healthcare professional:

Sometimes it isn’t just about asking, “Is my thyroid normal?”
It’s about asking whether your body has what it needs to support normal thyroid function.
