Well done to Chloe Gillon for completing the Edinburgh half marathon.

When we started working together at the tail end of last year, calf/shin issues would have made this seem unlikely.

But through a slow process of strengthening and then introducing low level jumps (lesson point: if you can't jump, you can't run) she got there.

Can't credit her enough for all the work she's put in!

Once you have a baseline of strength it can be a good idea to get really intentional with your training.

I’ve just finished a 10 week block to work on sprint speed and move from a 20 second 100m to 16.15 seconds.

So still 🐢 but a slightly faster 🐢🔥😆

I’m quite happy that I can still run a 100m at 52 and my hamstrings are still attached!!

My guidelines for navigating fitness content on social media:

1. If it says 'You must do this exercise and not do this one if you want to achieve xyz', you can probably ignore it

Exercise selection is probably one of the least important variables that affect your outcomes.

Intensity, volume and a properly structured progressive program are will have FAR more impact

2. If it stays 'Acheive xyz in 28 days' and shows a model in incredible shape, you can probably ignore it

The program will hopefully make you make some progress but it will almost certainly NOT make you like the model used in the ad.

Here are my thoughts on it:
✅ Find yourself a basic program from a source you trust (here's a clue; it won't have an AI generated ad telling you need a military workout as you're over 40)
✅Be as focused as you can be in terms of what you want to achieve
✅ Work that program hard for 8 to 10 weeks and then start thinking about another program (or run the same program again with heavier weights)
✅Accept the fact that fitness is the journey of a lifetime; there will be ups, downs, injuries and your needs will change (depending on where you are in your life).....it is never a 28 day quick fix

Most of us are aware of the impact AI is starting to have on our lives.

From a fitness perspective let me say this:
✅AI can write you an exercise program for free
🚫AI cannot teach you how to an exercise feels
🚫AI will struggle to give you alternative exercises that reflect your ability to move or any restrictions you have
🚫 It can't look at you when you move and detect an issue that you weren't even aware of
🚫 It can't make a judgement about whether you need to work harder, or bring it down a notch
🚫 It can't make you laugh when you're trying to do a difficult exercise (one of my specialties!)

So by all means get AI to write you a free program.....just remember you get what you paid for!

With the Easter holidays coming to an end, maybe this is the perfect time to try something new.

I'm running a free session in the Quiet Path method at Omni Gym on Monday 20th at 9 am.

This will be training which will cover balance, power, strength and flow.

If the weather holds there will be an outside element to this as well.

This is part of a 6 week course, but there's no obligation to continue.

At the very least you get a free PT session out of it!

The physical training element of the Quiet Path Method prioritizes those attributes that allow us to move well.

These are:
✅ Balance
✅ Foot speed
✅ Flow (transitioning between different positions)
✅ Power
✅ Strength (and movement quality)

Training for these does not look cool, flashy or IG friendly, and I couldn't care less.

**The Quiet Path Method - 1st session FREE**
If you're looking to improve your strength, balance, mobility and ability to move, AND then apply this in the great outdoors this is for you.

Each session (which will start Monday 20/04 at 9 am) will be in 2 parts:
Part 1: In the gym, working on balance, strength & flow
Part 2: Outside (unless the weather is outrageous), putting some of this into practice

This can all be scaled to make sure you're challenged, and best of all there is no running!

This will run for 6 weeks, starting 9 am Monday 20/04.

First session is free (so try before you buy), and it's £20 per session thereafter.
