What’s the significance?!

I grew up going shopping with my Mum & coming home really really upset. I’d be frustrated, angry & my poor Mum would have to navigate this each time!

Why?

My thighs!
I could never find jeans to fit & I used to get really apprehensive of Summer & wearing shorts. I hated my legs so much.
I hated them even more that no jeans would fit me. My friends were all in skinny leg Diesel jeans (remember them?!) but my thighs were never to grace a pair of Diesels.

It’s taken a long time & still to this day, my thighs or quads shall we call them are my big insecurity. I have to catch myself when I can get fixated on them or feel I am comparing myself & stop myself.

42 years & I’ve always been this shape! But now I’ve strengthened them & continue to work them hard because I love they let me run & I love to challenge them in the gym.

Now I don’t get annoyed if shorts or jeans don’t fit, I look for a different size or shape.

I don’t think the problem is me anymore.

So when I was out with my Mum recently, she offered to buy me some shorts & it was a realisation moment, of how things have changed & I am not angry at clothes & my legs anymore!

So embrace your shape & size. Care about what your body can do for you, not pulling it apart of what it looks like.

Wear the damn shorts with pride.
And the jeans too… when the weather cools down!

Just me… trying to slow down & switch off a bit more.

The past few weeks I was feeling mega overwhelmed, sleeping poorly, lots of headaches & felt like I was dragging myself through the day.

So what have I done about it?

ā—½ļø Getting up & getting outside first thing. Even just standing in the garden for 10 mins. No phone. No caffeine. Just the morning light & hearing the birds.

ā—½ļø Drinking water before any caffeine & also not drinking it late into the day to protect my sleep.

ā—½ļø Minimal social media in the evening & even putting my phone on Do Not Disturb so I don’t go to bed with a lot on my mind.

ā—½ļø Minimal snacking into the evening as I know I do it out of habit rather than hunger.

ā—½ļø Less mindless scrolling & more mindful reading / movement. Walking without using my phone & also really enjoying reading this book by DOSE effect.

ā—½ļø Had some time off work & also booked two holidays that I’m really looking forward to!

So that’s it & I will keep it going.
Real simple stuff.

But it’s amazing how much we can let boundaries go, feel we need our phone all the time, let mindless stuff creep in, live off caffeine, eat sugary stuff just because it’s there or because our hands have to do something in front of the tv!

Would you change something to help better balance your habits?!

Overthinking + underacting?

Taking action reduces the heaviness.
It doesn’t have to be the perfect first step.
Ask for help. Seek out the help.
One step forward.
More action.
Less overwhelm.

Go prove it to yourself you can make changes šŸ’„

Caveat: I am by no means great at cooking!

In fact I used to have to phone my mum or one of my sisters to check how long baked beans needed in the microwave! I was very basic & clueless. I think my fave meal used to be pasta, bacon & cheese! (My kids would love this too if they could have it daily!)

But thesedays, I love trying new recipes (as long as simple ingredients). I enjoy caring about putting something together & even when it’s super simple I am trying to add more colour to my plate.

Why?! Well good health obvs, but also energy to keep me going as I realise as I get older I feel so rubbish snacking my way through the day.
Plus when you really enjoy a meal & feel satisfied, you’re far less likely to start looking for something else & nibbling on what’s in the cupboards.

I’m a big fan of & recipes & books. You can’t go far wrong if you’re trying to eat well & really enjoy your meals.

What’s your current fave meal?!

The key to unlock progress & realise your potential.

Results don’t come from thinking the same & doing the same.

As a new PT 8 years ago, I never realised the power of mindset for changes. Now I do & it’s what I love coaching to others.

Consistency isn’t about being perfect, about having the perfect amount of time, it isn’t about never missing a workout, it isn’t being disciplined no matter what.

Consistency is usually the missing piece when changes are wanted.

We hit a stumbling block & it stops us.
We realise what we set out to do was unsustainable.
We don’t feel motivated or in the mood, we’re short of time. The workout doesn’t happen.

Consistency drives momentum, which drives, which drives results, which drives motivation, which drives the desire for more, which drives the realisation we don’t need to be perfect, we just have to get good at doing our best given the situation we’re in.

Your best in that moment is good enough.

Show up, don’t give up & watch the results come.

The good news, there is support out there & expertise to guide you through.

Don’t learn the hard way.
Your body has already been through a lot, now for the right kind of TLC.
