We’ve completed the signing of Crewe Alexandra midfielder Max Sanders ✍️
The 27-year-old, who made 40 appearances for the Railwaymen last season, has turned down their offer of a new contract and joins us on a two-year deal with the option of another year in the club’s favour.
Director of Football Richard Montague said: “Max is an excellent ball-player who’s also physical enough to handle the demands of the modern game.
“Having captained Brighton’s academy, represented England at Under 19 level and played the majority of his football in League One, he has plenty of pedigree and experience, while also being in his prime years.
“Max has all the qualities we look for in a midfielder of his kind and we’re delighted to bring him to Meadow Lane.”
Sanders’ first taste of men’s football came on loan at AFC Wimbledon from Brighton in 2019, when he helped keep the Dons in League One.
His progress continued the following season as he made three appearances for Albion in the Carabao Cup before sealing a permanent move to Lincoln City, who paid an undisclosed fee for his services.
Sanders’ early momentum was disrupted by injury but he went on to make 72 appearances for the third-tier Imps before joining Leyton Orient, again for an undisclosed fee, and clocking up another 27 appearances in League One.
Ahead of the 2024-25 season, Crewe became the latest club to pay a fee for him - and he has gone on to establish himself as a regular starter and consistent performer for the League Two outfit over the past two seasons, making 85 appearances.
