We are a community-focused junior football club based in Newtownards, Co. Proudly part of Ards Rangers Football Club

Down, providing a positive, fun and progressive environment for young players to learn and develop. Thank you for visiting the page of our club, Ards Rangers Juniors. We are a local junior football club based in Newtownards, Co Down. We want to coach your child so they can:
- become the best player they can be
- make new friends in their teammates
- develop their personalities
- have fun! All of our coaching staff have a recognised IFA coaching qualification. Our training methods promote the latest recommendations from the IFA in all age groups. We have a wide range of teams who play in a variety of games programmes in NI. Currently we have teams who play in the Lisburn League, South Belfast League and North Down and Ards Small Sided Games Programme. In addition, we offer specialist goalkeeping training to all of our goalkeepers as part of our regular training plan. Ards Rangers FC is a Northern Irish football club with three teams, two of which play in the Premier Division of the Northern Amateur Football League. The third team plays in the Down Area Winter League. The club was formed in 1949 and plays its home games at Drome Park in Newtownards. Ards Rangers were admitted into the Amateur League in 1962. Drome Park is our club house and regularly holds social events in our bar and function room and often has live music events and drinks promotions on home match days.

A late kick-off at the Hammer saw our Hawks take on Berlin Swiftettes in the SBYL League, with both sides expecting another closely fought encounter after previous meetings had always produced tight, physical battles.

The Hawks started brightly and Gabi opened the scoring, giving the team an early advantage. Berlin battled hard and pulled one back from a high cross that their player got on the end of.

Rachel then found the net to make it 2–1 taking us into half time. We came out in the second half and really took control of the game before Rachel added two more goals to complete a well-deserved hat-trick and put us firmly in front.

The Hawks defence was excellent throughout, standing strong against a physical Berlin side and limiting their number 7 to opportunities. Myanna then calmly finished to round off the scoring from great link up play from midfield securing an impressive 5-1 victory.

A strong team performance from our Hawks, with solid defending, battling from midfield winning first and second balls, plenty of determination and some excellent finishing making the difference in another physical encounter.

ARFC Colts Vs Shorts FC.

Up this week for the Colts was Shorts FC, a team we last faced in a tournament final last season and were unfortunate to lose on penalties, that along side the fact the Colts didn't have a match last week they were really up for this week's match.

Game started and it was end to end in a frantic manor for the first couple of minutes with both teams pushing forward without any end product. It didn't take long for the first goal though when in the 5th minute noah broke free of his man, pulling into a channel where he had time to take his shot, only for the keeper to save it but Ollie was in the right place at the right time and smashed the ball home from close range giving the colts a 1-0 lead. The colts looked dangerous after going ahead but unfortunately on the 13th minute a long ball over the top held up in the grass and shorts striker ran on to hit his shot across the keeper making it 1-1.

This seemed to push the colts to another level though and we had chance after chance but maybe rushed the end product at times. Five minutes before half time the colts worked the ball out to the right wing where Ollie beat his man down the line and hit a cross shot across the goal and returned the favour when noah got on the end of it and he calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net taking the colts into half time with a deserved but well earnt 2-1 lead.

At half time we spoke to the colts and still thought we could step it up another level, they were told they had a good first half but we know what they are capable of and could try and put the game to bed in the second half.

The second half started and the colts certainly took on board the half time message. They were energetic all over the pitch, winning more and more 50/50s as the second half progressed. We had many chances to extend our lead throughout the second half but again maybe rushing the final pass or our shots, fortunately our defence really commanded our second half push and were air tight at the back and never looked like conceding, our full backs really stepped up, Kayden was commanding in coming of his line and Jacob was unbelievable in getting the team further up the pitch which in turned relieved alot of pressure on the colts to play with freedom and the team was rewarded with 2 minutes to go when Jacob won his tackle deep in our half and played a great through ball for Harry who may or may not have took his shot slightly early but as with so many times last season he found the back of the net and the game finishes 3-1.

Really good game today from the Colts and it was nice to see our overall dominance resulting in a victory whereas last season we seemed to dominate most matches but struggled with our concentration and gave away goals and even victories when being on top for the majority of games 👏.

This week's PoTM could have went to quite a few players, however Noah just pipped it with his dynamic running behind and the build up play towards the end of the game from the left when he switched up positions, well done Noah 🤝.

Good start to the season for the rangers against a very good Glentoran side.

We started the game on the front foot and created the better chances but Glentoran still had a threat going forward with Alfie pulling off a great save to keep it at 0.0

2nd half started and we told the lads to use the pitch better and hitting the front man and play off him we listened and it worked a treat. Reece got the first goal then Glentoran hit back quickly with us getting caught but with about 6 minutes to go Jackson won a free kick and stuck it away super. We changed to a back 3 to see out the game as it’s something we have wanted to look at it and defended super and with a couple minutes to spare Logan hit a Logan and it was game over. Super start to the season lets keep pushing 🩵⚽️

Ards Rangers 4–2 Celtic Boys

We started brightly, with Jax and Daniel looking really composed at the back, playing calmly through the lines and getting the ball into midfield. Cohen then opened the scoring with a fantastic solo long-range effort to make it 1–0.

We continued to press well, with Ralph, Will and Rudy working hard on the wings, taking on players with quick dribbling attacks, winning their individual battles and creating plenty of chances. A quick pass from Rudy found Brodie, who finished well to double our lead.

Cohen continued to be excellent all over the pitch, while Jacob did a great job breaking up attacks and driving us forward. Myles was equally composed, showing confidence in possession and helping us move the ball through the lines. Quick triangles between Cohen and Will eventually found Brodie, who finished well for his second to make it 3–0.

After the break, Rudy produced some brilliant work and tricky feet down the right before slipping the ball across for Jacob to tap home and make it 4–0.

We had chances to add more, with Brodie unlucky not to complete his hat-trick, while Rudy and Will also went close. Big Mason did really well when called upon in goal, showing good hands and good distribution out to the defenders.

Two late goals made the finish a little nervy, including a fantastic strike into the top corner that Mason could do nothing about.

Overall, deserved winners and a really well-rounded performance.

Player of the week was Cohen, excellent all over the park both defensively and attacking, round off with a goal as well.

Gameweek 2 saw the boys travel to Brook for what turned out to be a very tight and cagey game. The pitch felt very small, and with the strong wind making conditions difficult, it was always going to be a challenging afternoon.
The first half saw very few clear-cut chances, with most of the play taking place in the midfield. Jax came closest for Rangers with a free kick which the SOPFC keeper did well to save. Apart from that, chances were limited and the first half finished 0–0.
At half-time, we asked the boys to get more shots away, especially as we now had the wind behind us. Unfortunately, much like the first half, clear chances were difficult to come by.
Carter and Noah both had half chances, while Jake came closest when his effort struck the post! 👏
At the other end, our defence and keeper stood strong throughout and dealt really well with anything SOPFC managed to create.
The game eventually finished 0–0, which was disappointing as we felt the game was there for us to take. However, credit to the boys for battling right until the final whistle in difficult conditions. 💪
Mason was this weeks POTM, worked all morning winning tackles and driving us forward, thanks to for the support and for kit sponsors

Another great morning of football for 2017 colts at NDSSG…

Colts went in to today’s game full of confidence after a derby win against Ards Academy last week and two good training sessions.

We were up against a Bangor young men side who we didn’t know a lot about.
I didn’t need to do too much of a team talk as when we were talking we heard the opposition coach telling his team that they were going to beat us.

We actually started a wee bit slow with sloppy passes and not holding positions but once we got the first goal through Casher we really pushed on and dominated all over the pitch.

Once the confidence started to build the ball was being zipped about and using the flanks really well.

Some really well worked goals and some cracking solo efforts. Harry with the pick of the bunch with a great hit from halfway into the top corner of the net.

Oliver 🧤 got on the scoresheet with a well taken penalty, and was unlucky to not have a clean sheet as we got caught late on in the game with a break away.

When we were in a commanding position I did try to rotate players in different areas to give some players that wee bit of freedom to express themselves,

Freddie Paterson was the only one not to get on the scoresheet, he did provide 3 or 4 great assists, played in 4 different positions and his work rate was excellent so he didnt go noticed and had a big part to play on our win.

Was a hard decision to pick a player of the week as probably could have gave it to everyone but I though Freddie Campbell was super, was a real threat with his pace all day and a couple of nice goals.

It’s great to see how much were coming together as a team and every week we are looking stronger and stronger, I’m sure yous as parents can also see it from the sidelines.

2012s vs Bym
This morning seen us take on a good Bym team who were full of confidence but it was ards rangers who started the match off stronger with our front line putting the pressure on bym creating a few chances. We got infront with some lovely football being played and stretching the bym midfield and defence and then in quick succession we were 3 up. A silly free kick gave them a goal back but we put the pressure back on an got our 4th 4 1 half time
Second half started a bit scrappy with both teams having chances but we stayed strong with our keeper making a few great saves. Halfway through the second half with us not clearing the ball properly we let them pull 1 back and they tried to apply some pressure onto us but we caught them out with a quick counter to put the game to bed.

Ards Rangers 2016 2 v 2 Linfield

Friday night lights at Junior Park saw the boys up against a young but very good Linfield side. We started slow and allowed Linfield to play, losing some of our shape that we had worked on in training and pre season. Our usual confidence on the ball didn't seem to be there tonight and we didn't put our foot on the ball and look for a pass. Linfield then got the early confidence with a ball over the top that the striker finished well. They pushed forward, looking to play through our team but we stood strong in the final third. A through pass then saw Ire break free and when he was just about to shoot in the box he was brought down. To our bemusement the ref gave a goal kick as the ball had travelled on over the byeline. We tried to get more into the game and Oscar did well to find space but his shot agonisingly hit the base of the post. We went in 1 nil down at the break.

In the second half we started with more confidence and it wasn't long before it was rewarded when Ire was played through, outmuscled his defender and finished well. You could see the boys getting a boost although Linfield came straight back at us and from a cross we lost their players and a great header into the net made it 2-1.
We kept at it them, although looked a bit tired all over the pitch tonight, still not finding our usual rhythm of passing. We pushed forward and were awarded a penalty after an obvious handball to block a shot in the box. Up stepped Finlay who gave the keeper no chance with a drive into the bottom corner. The game was quick and went from back to front with half chances at either end, Ollie tipping one onto the post and their keeper making some saves. In the last minute we broke free through Jesse but their keeper produced a good save to keep it 2-2 and the game finished in a draw.
We know we can play with more confidence and build on nights like tonight, with the boys disappointed in the draw.

2016 Colts 4 vs 2 Grove Utd Jets
First game in SBYL for the Colts. After his excellent performances in the preseason and training our captain tonight was James.

The game started off cagey with both teams struggling to keep the ball on a small tight pitch. We were creating some half chances and limiting Grove to shots from distance until Rueben capitalised on a free ball and scored our first goal of the season. The 2nd wasn’t far behind when from a Grove corner Micah picked up the ball drove forward before playing an excellent through ball to Reuben who blasted it high past the keeper.

The message in the 2nd half was simple keep it tight at the back and battle in midfield which is how Micah got our 3rd when he won the ball high up the pitch, cut inside before unleashing a ferocious strike into the far top corner! From here the boys really stepped up the football and played some really nice stuff but were caught out when a long shot from Grove found the bottom corner, then disaster stuck at the back when they got their 2nd and looked to be right back in the game. Credit to the boys who stood strong and increased their work rate which was lead by our captain James who pounced on a throw in, shrugged a defender off and smashed the ball on the half volley into the far side of the net to settle any nerves and restore a 2 goal lead.

A fantastic start to life in a new league, every one of the boys worked their socks off and put in a great performance.

Another incredible performance, starting on the right wing he worked up and down creating some nice chances, then moving into centre mid he took control of the game and scored a wonderful goal!
