Tomas O’Flaherty is due to retire in a couple of months and needs something to occupy himself when he won't have to go out to work every day . Learning to fly solved that problem and buying an immaculate Thruster T600 will provide the means to do it. The final hurdle was the need to have a Pilot's Licence and he jumped over that obstacle on 9th September when he passed his GST in his own Irish registered Thruster. EI DKJ.
Congratulations Tomas .

Karl (Kipper) Millar has already acquired a very smart Thruster Jabiru Sprint which is sitting waiting patiently for him on a landing strip next to his home in the Isle of Man. All he needs is a licence to take it out for a flight..
On 22nd June Karl undertook his final pilgrimage to Newtownards to undertake his GST in Thruster G CGFZ ( almost identical to his own machine).
Having successfully completed the GST Karl can now take the ferry back to IOM and reward the patience of his own Thruster.
Karl is pictured in a celebratory pose next to FZ .
Congratulations Karl

Shortly after starting his flying training Darren Harper decided to buy his own Thruster Sprint in order to complete the course .
On 12th June 2024 Darren successfully completed the GST in his Thruster , and if Aaron and the BMAA licencing team perform their normal swift turnaround Darren will have the opportunity to play with the clouds over Northern Ireland in his own aircraft next week.
Congratulations Darren.

Hugh Gordon completed his final solo navigation exercise in late November and was then ready to undertake his GST.
When Hugh eventually did book his GST on 7th January he explained the delay by offering the rather lame excuse that he had to get married and go to Vietnam on honeymoon in December.
Despite his lack of commitment to the important things in life Hugh still managed to successfully pass his GST on 7th January 2024.
Contratulations Hugh on completion of the most important event.

Undertaking a General Skills Test at Newtownards Airfield in a Thruster with no cabin heater whilst wearing shorts is not what most people would enjoy doing on a cold January day. Nevertheless on 4th January Arnie Fumegall did just that and passed his GST with flying colours.
Arnie lives in Galway in Ireland and is now hoping to join forces with a local airfield owner and fly a Thruster there.
Congratulations Arnie

In 2015 Ross Spence passed his GST in the school Thruster G CGFZ and then headed straight down to the RAF recruitment office. Ross is currently piloting Typhoon Jets at Lossiemouth.
Today (19/12/23) Nicholas Dennison passed his GST in the school Thruster G CGFZ and is heading straight down to the RAF recruitment office after Christmas , so hopefully the RAF will need another Typhoon in a couple of years.
Congratulations Nicholas.

Michael Seeds has spent countless hours on his home flight simulator and they certainly paid dividends on December 13th when he gave himself an early Christmas present by completing his First Solo flight after less than ten hours under instruction.on the real thing.

On 8th December the Ulster Flying Club organised an evening event to honour newly qualified pilots and present them with their Wings Certificates and a UFC crested flying jacket. Northern Ireland Microlights had eleven pilots this year to receive their Wings. The club arranged for Lady Herman to do the presention following a very pleasant Christmas Dinner in the Cloud 9 Restaurant.

Peter McCloskey retired from his Chartered Accountancy business a couple of years ago and was finding it hard to cope with life without the thrills and excitement he was accustomed to in his previous career, so Peter decided to learn to fly a Microlight.
17 months after commencing the course Peter passed his GST in Thruster G CGFZ on 25th October and is now negotiating to buy a share in a Thruster based at Newtownards Airfield.
Congratulations Peter

Car body engineer Keanu Crossland reckoned that the bodywork of the school's 13 year old Thruster C CGFZ was quite dull and tired so he arrived prior to his Flying lesson with his professional polishing equipment and completed a nose to tail valet on the aircraft.
Clearly Keanu anticipated he would be going solo in the near future and wanted to be photographed in a nice shiny Thruster.
On 11th September Keanu's preparations bore fruit and the photograph was taken of Keanu in a very shiny Truster following his First Solo.
Congratulations Keanu.

17 year old Nicholas Dennison is in his last A level year at school and contemplating a career in aviation. He is funding his Flying Training through a part time job sheering sheep and has worked out that he needs to sheer 48 sheep to pay for a one hour lesson.
On 7th September Nicholas embarked upon his First Solo Flight and only 576 sheep are feeling the chill to date.
Congratulations Nicholas .

Rónán Davison-Kernan had been learning to fly in a Group A Cessna but became curious about the group of Microlight Pilots at the airfield who never seemed to miss an opportunity to go Flying and always seemed to be having fun. When he enquired and found out our aircraft had similar performance to the Cessna and cost less than half the price for training he contacted Aaron at the BMAA to find out how to convert his SEP training time towards gaining a Microlight Licence. Aaron gave Rónán the figures and the result a few weeks later on 23/8/23 was that Rónán passed his GST in Thruster G CGFZ.
Congratulations Rónán on a sensible decision and passing your GST and still having enough money left to buy a share in the local Skyranger Group.
