Tuesday 22nd September is Microlight Flying above St Albans!

We're working with Rob and Richard at Exodus Airsports - a really enthusiastic couple of guys - who will introduce you to the thrills and excitement of flying on Tuesday 22nd September.

Exodus Airsports is based at Plaistows Farm Airfield, situated in Chiswell Green, just outside St Albans in Hertfordshire.

Just a mile from the M25 and M1, it is very convenient for North London and easily reachable from most parts of the south of England.

Chiswell Green Lane is a narrow country lane and, after a sharp right-hand bend look for the Plaistows Farm sign and entry to the airfield is on the left after the long barn.

We'll meet at the Car Park promptly at 9.45 am and for safety reasons wait to be escorted to the Main Hanger.

Chief Flying Instructor Rob started flying at the age of 10 and has been instructing for more than 20 years.

Richard is also a highly experienced instructor, flying both flex wing and fixed wing.

Both these CAA-approved instructors are dedicated to making flying for people with disabilities a reality.

The aircraft you'll be flying is Flex-Wing GT450 Microlight. This aircraft design originates from the early days where an engine was attached to a hang glider.

Nowadays they have fantastic performance similar to that of a small fixed wing aircraft.

The seating arrangement is front to back and the cockpit is open.

Flying suits are worn for extra warmth as well as helmets and headsets.

Rob or Richard will be taking you up for an approximate 20 minute flight.

During the flight you will take control of the aircraft under their direction. That's what we call an Experience!

Flying suits and helmets will be provided and there are no particular dress requirements. But, please, no shorts or sandals. Not for aesthetic reasons, but for safety and comfort.

We'll meet in the car park at 9.45 am, park up and then go over to the main hanger in convoy for tea or coffee and a briefing.

Then it's time to kit up for the flying session.

And as there will be some waiting around you might want to bring a light lunch or snack.

Note: This is a grass runway airfield and fairly basic. There is a loo at the site BUT this is NOT wheelchair accessible. However, at the roundabout of the nearby A405, North Orbital Road, there is a Shell petrol station. Opposite that is the Mercure Noke Hotel with accessible loos; and just beyond the petrol station is a Starbucks (just off the roundabout) again with a fully accessible loo.

And don't worry if you have never seen a microlight before, just be ready to be amazed at what you can achieve!

Important Notice: The following health restrictions apply in all cases: Persons flying should weigh no more than 110kg and not suffer with epilepsy.

The sport will be restricted solely to people within our remit i.e. with some form of paralysis. But, as ever, friends and family are very welcome to come along and watch the fun!

Wednesday 30th September is Sailing in the North East!

We're delighted to be able to offer a brand new venue [to us] for one of our favourite events - sailing, with the Scaling Dam Sailing & Watersports Club.

Gail and the crew at Sailability are waiting to welcome us on Wednesday 30th September at 11.00am.

Scaling Dam Watersports Club is situated just off on the A171 some 19 miles south east of Middlesborough.

They have a variety of boats for you to experience the joy, the fun, the exhilaration of sailing with their fleet comprising Challengers and Access dinghies.

So complete novices and never-evers are more than welcome! And for more experienced sailors there's a range of other boats also available.

There's a fully accessible clubhouse and changing room facility. Hoists are available (if needed) for easier access to the boats.

Don't worry if you haven't tried sailing before, there will be plenty of hands-on advice, guidance and instruction.

Life Jackets are of course provided, but we suggest that you bring a towel and perhaps a change of clothes - you might get wet!

You don't need special clothing, anything that is comfortable is OK.

Tracksuits and trainers are ideal. But it will always feel cooler on the water, so it's a good idea to bring an extra layer.

As mentioned before a change of clothes is also not a bad idea - just in case.....

Wednesday 23rd September is Quad Biking in North Yorkshire!

We are delighted to announce our September 2026 date for another exciting Quad-biking event in North Yorkshire with Adrenalin North Yorkshire Ltd at Blacks Plantation, Richmond, North Yorkshire, DL10 5EZ.

The fabulous team are waiting to welcome Sportability.

So, if you fancy some high octane adventure of the motorised kind their friendly, qualified instructors will show you how to ride safely before taking you off road where you will see some of the best views in Yorkshire, or trekking around their fabulous quad gaming course. It will be up to the instructors on the day.

We'll meet in the Reception at 10.15am and a briefing; then we'll kit up for the session. Note: they'll supply helmets, gloves, and overalls BUT please wear sturdy boots/shoes and clothing that covers arms & legs .

Please note: absolute beginners or never-evers all welcomed!

And don't worry if you have never seen a quad bike before, just be ready to be amazed at what you can achieve. The team are fully qualified, friendly instructors, who will ensure you have a safe, enjoyable and ultimately exciting time.

Note: There are accessible loos and tea and coffee making facilities are available but you will need to bring your own lunch.

And remember that with Sportability anyone within our remit can participate free of charge.

Thursday 24th September is Sailing in Kent!

We're delighted to be returning to one of our favourite events - sailing at Chipstead Valley with Wealden Sailability who are waiting to welcome us at 11.00am.

Chipstead Sailing Club is situated near Sevenoaks in Kent, where the A21 and the A25 cross, near the M25. So easy access from South London, Kent and Surrey!

They have a variety of boats for you to experience the joy, the fun, the exhilaration of sailing with their fleet comprising Hansas and Laser Stratos.

So complete novices and never-evers are more than welcome! And for more experienced sailors there's a range of other boats also available.

The clubhouse has large picture windows overlooking the lake.

Its excellent facilities include changing rooms with accessible toilets and showers.

There's a bar/restaurant for coffee and tea, but please bring your own lunch.

There is wheelchair access to all parts of the Clubhouse and onto the pontoon. Also a hoist is available (if needed) for easier access to the boats.

Life Jackets are of course provided, but we suggest that you bring a towel and perhaps a change of clothes - you might get wet!

Don't worry if you haven't tried sailing before, there will be plenty of hands-on advice, guidance and instruction.

Tuesday 15th September is a Paddle Boarding River Trip in Yorkshire!

We are thrilled to announce a Fabulous Paddle Board River Trip in our Yorkshire region.

Dan and his wonderful team at SUP Active Yorkshire are waiting to welcome us to this exciting experience on Tuesday 15th September 2026 starting at Boroughbridge Marina.

We will meet at the marina by the SUP Yorkshire Activity Van: 12.30 pm for a 1.00pm start.

With their expertise you will be surprised how quickly you will be on the water.

They pride themselves in providing an inclusive, safe and fun learning environment and are really passionate about ensuring a great day out along the river.

All their instructors are ASI and British Canoeing qualified.

There is a choice of boards from (large with out-riggers, extra large or multi person boards) and seating on the board is provided in the form of specially adapted wheelchair frame.

It will be up to the instructors on the day to match you with the most suitable board.

Wetsuits, buoyancy aids and life jackets are all available but it is still advisable to bring along a change of clothing and footwear in case you get wet.

There are accessible loos and a lovely pub nearby.

Whilst paddle-boarding your possessions, if required, will be locked away until your return.

Be ready to be amazed at what you can achieve and remember that with Sportability anyone within our remit can participate free of charge.

Tuesday 15th September is Powered Flying in the Midlands!

We are thrilled to announce a very special airborne experience at Tatenhill - Powered Flying!

With a fleet of various aircraft - including the workhorse Piper PA-28 Cherokee four seaters - the crew at Aerobility Charity Aerobility organised over 300 trial flights each year for people with a whole range of disabilities, including spinal cord injury, stroke and MS. So totally in our zone of operation.

As you'd expect, they are fully regulated and approved by the Civil Aviation Authority to provide flight training and 'taster' days - so we're delighted to be working with them on your behalf.

They are offering us the fascination of powered flight with a couple of really accessible options.

For those that can manage, the low-winged Piper is about wheelchair height and with some butt shuffling it's possible to manoeuvre into the cockpit. Or there's a hoist that will simply drop you into the seat, should that be the better option.

Our location for this fab flying experience is Tatenhill Airfield located at Needwood, just west of Burton-upon-Trent, in the heart of the British countryside.

There's an accessible loo and ramped access to the clubhouse where they'll be serving tea and coffee, but NO meals. So bring your own lunch!

Please note: There are weight and height restrictions to flying. If you are heavier than 17 stones (250lb or 115kg) or taller than 6'4"/193cm, you will not be able to fly. Sorry but those are the safety restrictions that apply.

Thursday 17th September is also Catamaran Sailing off Portsmouth!

We are thrilled to announce a unique sailing experience in a specially designed and built Catamaran from Port Solent.

Mike Wood and his enthusiastic crew at the Disabled Sailors Association will be waiting to welcome you at the Port Solent Marina.

There's a qualified skipper and mate to sail with you, full safety gear [including auto inflating life jackets for everyone] and fully accessible toilet and washing facilities!

The Plan: Arrival time 09.45 am. Meet and greet and a full safety briefing.

Then it's out through the lock to enjoy a trip down Portsmouth Harbour, before cruising the open seas of the Solent.

The route and itinerary will be dictated by the wind and the tides on the day, but what is certain is that you'll love the experience.

All the controls are wheelchair accessible, so everyone gets to experience the joy, the fun, the exhilaration of sailing this amazing yacht! And if it's cool outside - it's warm and dry in the saloon.

And remember that with Sportability anyone within our remit can participate free of charge.

Please mention at time of booking if you are a wheelchair user and whether you use an electric or manual chair.

You don't need special clothing, anything that is comfortable is OK. Tracksuits are ideal, but any casual trouser, jeans, tee-shirts and sweatshirts or fleeces are fine. Ladies, do not wear dresses or skirts as the life jackets use crutch straps.

It will always feel cooler on the water, so it is a good idea to bring an extra layer.

Tea and coffee are available on board, but please bring your own packed lunch and drinking water. And some sun cream/block.
