It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the passing of IBC’s beloved ‘Marvellous’ Marvin… 🐈‍⬛

Marvin was adopted by IBC in 2018 and lived at the gym until his retirement in 2024… from here, he was living his best life with Sarah (long standing IBC member) until his passing in 2026.

Many will remember Marvin wondering around the gym, sleeping in the ring whilst boxers were sparring, laying in the sun in the car park and venturing into the local shops, schools and peoples houses!

All of us at IBC are so heartbroken and are also sending our love and thanks to Sarah♥️

Today at the London Development Championship 1/4 finals held at Springwest Academy, Feltham we had 9 boxers competing to earn their spot in the next round of the Devs.

• Mohammed Shah Hussain aka Little Mo (U57.5kgs, Youth) - Won 4-1 split
• Toks Rowaiye (U57.5kgs) - Won unan
• Eoin Coney (U70kgs) - Won KO3
• Ashlee Kennedy (U60kgs) - Won 4-1 split
• Lemar Topper (U60kgs) - Won unan
• Henry Boateng (U60kgs) - Won DQ2
• Luca Fooks (U62.5kgs) - Won 4-1 split
• Johnson Kangodia (U75kgs) - Won unan
• Hanif El-Hafedi (U65kgs) - Lost 4-1 split
• Nicholas Dorsett (U75kgs) - Won RSC3
• Sultan Oke (U70kgs) - W/O (his opponent and club mates Ceejay Stapleton-Marston was ruled out by the doctor this morning after sustaining a cut in his bout the day before).

We have 10 boxers competing on Saturday at the same venue. Unfortunately two of the bouts involve club mates boxing each other (Eoin vs Sultan & Ashlee vs Lemar), may the best man win on the day and move on.

The first show for Islington Boxing Club in the 2026/27 season began yesterday with 7 boxers competing in the Prelim rounds of the London Development Championships.

• Eoin Coney (U70kgs, Pre Pre 1/4 final) won via unanimous decision
• Sultan Oke (U70kgs, Pre Pre 1/4 final) won via unanimous decision
• Johnson Kangodia (U75kgs, Pre 1/4 Final) won via unanimous decision
• Ceejay Stapleton-Martson (U70kgs, Pre Pre 1/4 Final) won via 4-1 split
• Hanif El-Hafedi (U65kgs, Pre 1/4 Finals) won via unanimous decision
• Lemar Topper (U60kgs, Pre 1/4 Finals) won via unanimous decision
• Yoshua Betts-Priddy (U65kgs, Pre 1/4 Finals) lost 3-2 split

Well done to all boxers on the good start to the season and in the championships, still a long road ahead. We have 11 boxers competing today in the 1/4 finals. 🔴⚪️🥊

Last night, Islington Boxing Club senior boxer Hanif El-Hafadi was invited to the House of Lords by Lord Roe of West Wickham to take part in a special boxing demonstration the first, and possibly the only time we will see a boxing ring inside Parliament!

The event highlighted the many positive benefits of boxing, including discipline, confidence, fitness and community. This was also building up excitement ahead of the first London Fire Brigade Dinner Show in November which will benefit several charities including those affected by the Grenfell Tower Disaster.

It was a fantastic evening, attended by boxers and coaches from across GB including 3 of the recently crowned Commonwealth Games gold medalists, as well as the Mayor of London and a number of other distinguished guests.
