Mids entertained Abbey Vale at New King Edward Park on a very pleasant Wednesday evening, watched by a sizeable crowd, in this keenly contested South of Scotland League encounter.
The Vale probably had the best of the early play, but the Mids, now showing more of a settled structure in recent weeks, battled hard in defence and managed to get forward on occasions, especially towards the end of the half. As fate would have it however, the Lockerbie side lost a preventable goal four minutes before the break to turn around a goal behind.
HALFTIME: Mids 0 - 1 Abbey Vale
The pattern of the second half was similar to the first with the visitors always dangerous but the Mids never out of it, and, after a good 5 minutes spell, when Jakaitis brought out a terrific save from the Vale keeper, Gardiner scored with an overhead beauty to bring the sides level in 68 mins.
Unfortunately however, the Mids could only hold parity for four minutes with Wright conceding a penalty which was duly converted to put the New Abbey side back in front. Mids tried hard for an equaliser in the remaining 18 minutes but with the visitors wide men causing problems and Dani Carcu seeing red for a last man challenge the Vale saw out the remainder of the match to take all three points back home with them.
Well done to Abbey Vale FC and good luck for the rest of the season.
