The British Asian Rugby Association (BARA) is a dual code, inclusive, UK not-for-profit NGO of ten years standing. It has a history of campaigning for equality and inclusion for Asian communities (not exclusively) in rugby, and has delivered tangible projects which break down cultural and religious barriers and provide sporting benefits to a much under- represented minority ethnic community. For all Asian communities to have equal access, enjoyment and success through rugby. BARA's Objectives
To use the power of rugby at home and in south asian countries to create safe, inclusive programmes for children affected by poverty, conflict or family breakdown to access opportunities in education, sport and key life-skills. To use BARA’s status, experience and the role-models of its leaders and ambassadors to develop rugby- led programmes in marginalised communities within the UK and south asian nations, promoting social cohesion, education and health. We recently sat down with the incredible rising star Nimrah Gul, who currently plays for Old Crossleyans, to hear about her rugby journey.

From playing at school to representing Halifax Panthers Women, discovering rugby union and receiving BARA’s Rising Star Award, Nimrah has a story that deserves to be heard.

Rohin and Reya two very young superstars are part of the next generation enjoying and making their mark in rugby. Their father, Navneet Sembi, a pioneer of the game, is also seen scoring a try. A proud family moment, with all three getting over the line!

In only his third game ever, Elijah Malik, was named Player of the Match by his own team and the opposition chose him too.

The younger brother of Solomon Malik and son and nephew of the legendary Junaid Malik & Osman Malik, he’s growing up with rugby all around him and already making his own mark on the game.

A special first for us: The legendary Dr Hanif Malik OBE was our first interview guest for Beyond The Try Line - Celebrating Community Heritage in Rugby.

We were delighted to welcome him to The Residence by Malik Living, a beautifully refurbished venue that provided an exceptional setting for our conversation.

Hanif is one of the most influential British Asian / Muslim figures in the country, and a respected role model and ambassador across community, sport and charity. An expert in community development and social impact, with a long standing commitment to using sport and charitable work to bring people together and strengthen communities.

He is also a passionate supporter of sport in all its forms, from football and cricket to rugby. His knowledge of South Asian involvement in sport has been invaluable, including his contribution to our rugby league insight report.

It was a pleasure to sit down with Hanif to talk about sport, community and the stories that deserve to be remembered.
