A lovely gift today from Budo Society Musashi and Sensei John for our dojo in recognition of our shared values and support. Our seniors and I have been training aiki jujitsu monthly with John for over a year now and it’s really helped develop our skills and application work in our dojo.

Incredible seminar yesterday with Don Came Kyoshi and Kyoshi here in Honiton.

Ben’s session looked at a variety of applications from Goju katas building into surprise attacks using the Karate Jutsu Gakkai three d’s principles of defend, disrupt and despatch.

This was followed by Don looking at very similar principles as found in naihanchi with linked technology and pathways underpinning it all.

An amazing day of training with a great bunch of students. Huge thanks to Don and Ben for travelling down and making it such a success.

Those who were interested but couldn’t attend we will host them both again next year but in the interim I would wholeheartedly recommend you attend their seminars this years. Dons can be found on his page or website Don Came - Karate For Life

Prepping students for their dan grading this Sunday, it’s been an intense three months of extra sessions for a few of our students, but as with most things, you get back what you put in.

Tomorrow is our first grading of 2026, for kyu grades, which we do biannually every six months. We invite students who we think are consistently at the level they are grading towards, but students still need to perform on the day. I am always a bag of nerves (if I’m leading a grading or if I’m being graded) so I do feel for them! But it is a great experience and test of character, there’s nothing else like it.
