This week's theme in class has been exploring yoga bricks.
They're often seen as something we use when we can't quite reach the floor or can't quite get into a pose.
But they're much more than that.
This week we've explored lots of different ways to use bricks to create space, build strength, improve mobility and bring greater awareness to our movement.
🧱 We passed them from hand to hand (behind heads and under legs), encouraging greater reach and range of movement.
🧱 We squeezed them (between hands and between thighs) to engage stabilising muscles, helping us move with more support and integrity.
🧱 We used them under hands and arms to create new angles and relationships with the floor, providing leverage and reducing compression.
🧱 We rested on them, allowing gravity to gently open areas that might otherwise feel restricted.
🧱 We rested them on top of our bodies, using their weight to encourage stillness, soften the breath and calm the nervous system.
One student summed it up perfectly after class:
"You have completely changed my opinion about bricks. I will never see them in the same way again."
And here's my point...
When we use the resources and support available to us, it isn't cheating.
It doesn't make us weaker.
It can make us stronger.
It can allow us to access much more. 🌿
