Result: Loss
A great friendly to get back playing football before the season starts properly, both teams putting on a show of attacking intent and smart footballing play- unfortunately we were undone by some well-taken counter attacks, but there’s plenty to be excited about as we move into a new season.
We started brightly, and some of the passing and link-up play was brilliant to see. Leo in his new position as goalkeeper was alert and made some outstanding saves, Luke was his calm and composed self at the back and stepping into midfield. James was a rock at the back and held up play well as a striker in the second half, and Jake drove forward with real intent. Max scored a long-range goal which beat the keeper to put us into the lead, and Isaac, Ozzie and Jacob put in a busy afternoons work up and down the flanks. Sam was the ultimate utility player, in all positions over the pitch, running hard and playing some lovely passes.
Man of the match today went to Maddox, who put in a great performance at the back and on the left- fast into the tackle, passing and driving the team forward.
Although the result wasn’t what we wanted the performance was top class and we go into the season proper with huge amounts of optimism and excitement.

Shocking start to the season 1-0 after 20 seconds after our own mistakes however quickly bagged 3 goals from Douglas, Oladimeji and Mavrovitis. 20 mins later after we made another mistake with a lose back pass. The visitors then got one back making it 3-2 we then scored another two goals straight after scored by Chester x2. The visitors scored after a weak headed back pass to keeper making it 5-3 going into half time.

Spoke with the lads saying we have to cut our stupid mistakes out and keep moving ball and more goals will come going into second half.

Second half stared with us scoring a well worked goal finished by Mavrovitis. We then conceded another goal after a long ball over top with the winger slotting home to make it 6-4, we then went on to score 4 more good team and individual goals by Douglas, Abo, R.Timmons and Jjuko. Unfortunately conceded another goal after some hesitation to make it finish 10-5.

U11 Napoli

A scoreline that didn’t quite reflect the game today, with two pretty evenly matched teams.

We started a little slow, which was understandable given it was the first time this updated Napoli side had played together, and went into half-time 2–1 down. The opposition added a third shortly after the break, but from there we played some of our best football.

We created plenty of chances in the second half and had the better of the opportunities, but just lacked the final finish when it mattered.

Despite the result, there was loads to be encouraged by. Some really good passing football, excellent effort throughout and barely a missed tackle all game. A very promising start to the season, and I’m looking forward to seeing what these boys can do once they’ve had a few more games together.

MOTM: Ronnie for exceptional work rate against a strong opposition, along with some excellent link-up play on the break.

U10s Green - KO Cup Result win.

The Greens returned to action this afternoon in an entertaining game in which it was good to blow away the cobwebs of the summer break.

An almost full strength squad always makes for a pleasant headache for the coaching team and to a man the players performed exceptionally well.

Nevan grabbed the only goal of a tense first half with a devastating first time strike after latching onto some loose defending in the opposition box burying the ball into the bottom corner and giving their goalkeeper no opportunity for a save.

The Greens were on top for long periods of the game, stringing multiple passing sequences together and could have added to their tally before the break.

The second half saw much of the same, chances came and went until Emre was slipped in by William who tucked his shot inside the near left hand post to make it two.

Nevan had a goal of the season contender disallowed shortly after, the ref correctly calling the ball just out of play on the right hand touch line, before Emre settled the last few remaining nerves with a calm finish from a long Finn through ball that dissected the opposition back line.

A clean sheet to celebrate on the opening game of the season and an overall great team performance.

U13 Maroons had a late kick off on a big pitch at Platt Lane on what ended up a surprisingly warm and sunny afternoon. With five new players in the squad it was a new look Maroons side and that coupled with some rust meant it was a bit of a disjointed performance. We were well on top in the first half without really creating too much. We did take the lead through skipper Grinstead who skipped past two players before smashing home. Carter then hit the bar and Govier Moult & Sleeman both put dangerous balls in to the box. We were well on top but were being hit on the counter. We then conceded a corner and a former Maroon delivered an inswinger that flew directly into the back of the net to equalise. Debutant Webb pressed really well causing panic and ended up with an opening for him to slot home.
Second half remained the same with us pinning the opposition back but not making enough chances. Too often we wanted too many touches and got caught in possession. Pleasingly though at the back a rotating cast of Jones, Miller, Hargadon, Carrick & Mutamba along with keeper Parker kept the opposition at bay and some of the best playing out from the back I’ve seen in my time managing the Maroons. We didn’t really give them any chances and eventually Wilberforce at the other end created a bit of magic to get him up and running on the goal front and make the game safe.
The boys worked hard and there were a number of the lads looking very tired at the end. An enjoyable game and a great introduction for the new lads to the MYSL.
MOTM for two players today. Parker in goals whose footwork was superb and his handling as assured as ever. Didn’t have too much to do, but what he did he did very well. Hargadon at CB was poweful and composed marshalling the defence.

U12 Lionesses

A tough start for the Lionesses against a strong and well-organised side - but so much to be proud of!

The girls took a little time to settle, and they went into the break 2-0 up after a couple of small errors.

But the second half was a different story! 💪🦁

The Lionesses came out fighting, created chances and really started to find their rhythm. Their keeper pulled off some fantastic saves, and unfortunately the opposition were clinical at the other end to stretch their lead.

But these girls don’t know when to give up! ❤️

Right at the death, a final push saw the ball fall to Fliss, who calmly lifted it over the keeper and into the net! ⚽️🔥

WHAT A WAY TO FINISH! 🙌🦁

The girls are also learning the new offside rule, and although there’s plenty still to learn, we saw some great signs of understanding as the game went on.

Match fitness will improve.
The offside rule will come.
The chances will start going in.

That’s football. That’s development. That’s why we play. 💙

The result may have been a loss but the attitude, effort and determination were a massive positive.

U9 Roma

It’s great to be back after a long summer break! The boys came out of the blocks firing today and played some excellent football. Winning their personal battles and defending well as a group.

Some of the passing and movement when in possession was exceptional, and they should all be super proud of themselves. The goal of note being a passing move from front to back, every player involved, finished off by Charlie’s right knee at the back post!

All eight put in a proper shift, and we couldn’t separate them for player of the match. Well done team.

A special mention to Reuben in goal, making his Richmond debut!

U11 Roma started the season with a thrilling comeback victory.

The opposition looked a very decent side and started the game well - although without creating too many opportunities - they certainly had the balance of play.

Half way through the first period they made a deserved breakthrough and then scored 2 additional goals racing through unchallenged on both occasions from deep.

It looked like this could be a bleak afternoon before Denning released Tomkinson whose effort on goal was saved but Rome, following up, finished really well.

A second followed almost immediately in similar fashion with Rome on hand again to take us into the break ahead.

Roma had the momentum now and were applying consistent pressure and first to the ball much more often.

Byford pounced on a loose ball and scored a nicely take equaliser before Denning turned provider again as he fed Wilde who smashed home a spectacular shot to give Roma the lead.

The opposition equalised almost immediately though from the restart but Roma were undeterred and Byford again popped up to guide home a Wilde corner.

Very encouraging performance with everyone playing their part and showing superb resilience and desire to comeback against a good team.

U12 Clarets
Great performance from the lads today. We started unbelievably fast, with Appleby‑Stewart and Alcock both scoring inside the first 10 minutes. The boys kept the pressure on, moving the ball brilliantly between midfield and attack and cutting the opposition apart time after time.
The momentum kept building, with Alcock adding two more to complete his hat‑trick before half‑time, and Appleby‑Stewart grabbing his second. The defence stayed solid throughout, organised and calm whenever they were tested.

Second half started in the same vein — high energy, quick passing, and more chances created. Waithe got his first goal of the season after another flowing move, and Alcock added his fourth of the game. The opposition pulled a few back late on, but the lads stayed in control and managed the game well.

U16 Blacks Start with a WIN!!! 🔥⚽️

Great to be back! After the summer break, the boys were understandably a little rusty early on — some loose touches and passes, and the fitness levels definitely felt it!

But as the game settled, so did the Blacks. The quality started to shine through, with a brilliant team move finished off superbly by Wellens to give us the lead. 👏

The boys continued to dominate after the break and looked in control, but a penalty on 70 minutes gave them a way back into the game.

Cue a frantic final 10 minutes! 💪 The Blacks kept pressing, kept working and eventually got their reward. Another great move down the left was finished from close range by Wellens to grab his second and seal the win! ⚽️🔥

Great to be back competing, and GREAT TO BE WINNING! ⚫️☑️
