Using the sauna on high heat can cause heat stress. This is where your body is working too hard to cool yourself that it is no longer aiding recovery but causing recovery time to extend.

The aim of a sauna is to increase blood flow to allow nutrients to return to muscles in need of repair. This can be done on a heat around 80-85°C for 15-20 minutes.

Once you can stay in a sauna for an extended period of time you then open yourself up to receive the benefits of increased growth hormone production. This aids in muscle repair reducing your recovery time from sport.
