Rain - a mixed blessing -the course needed it badly and has greened up amazingly well. Problem is the unreliable weather forecasts put off golfers and we lose money!

Ladies Day as normal on Tuesday morning but I will not be there as I am going to a funeral. Everything else will be as usual; range balls, complementary tea or coffee and on Tuesday we revert to Autumn Green fee prices.

Ladies Day Tuesday
Looking forward to nice weather and a healthier golf course tomorrow.
After the work last Monday the greens have started to knit together - you can see the newly germinated seed in the photograph.
We have done a little remedial work today - adding some sand and seed to areas that look a little bare. We will also water and cut the greens tomorrow morning and continue with work on the brown areas.
The rough has been cut and the fairways greening up nicely.
We expect rain on Wednesday and the rest of week. Hopefully the sun will return afterwards and will give us an Indian summer.

Had a spare afternoon and decided to cut some of the rough at Spofforth. Fairways were cut Friday and the rain has really nourished them. The rough is mixed - part bone dry and patch growth and some quite green and longer. Anyway, always looks better for a trim.
The ground was still very hard - will take a few days of steady rain to make any real difference.
The greens are recovering well following the coring and topdressing. The sand has all sunk into the ground and the core holes have started to knot together. It will take a few days to get back to normal but the work has to be done. We have resumed cutting the greens, as well as rolling them, so with a bit of sunshine and showers we will be set for winter and spring next year.
One side note, whilst out and about I met two gentlemen golfers. They had tickets for the Test Match at Headingley - So with no match to go to they decided to play golf.
Hadn’t played for years but were enjoying a great afternoon weather wise and enjoyed seeing the course again. One had a Spofforth GC bag tag ticket from 2015 - which was the last time they played! Hope they return soon!

More video content showing what we have been working on at Spofforth GC.
It isn’t hard to see and understand but it is very hard to put into practice.
Do the drills we discussed at home or anywhere you have a little space and the turn and not the sway will become second nature. Do the turns with feet together and maintain your balance.
I am not here this Tuesday but Ladies Day will be on. Same deal, warm up balls, play your round and have a tea or coffee. You just don’t get me nagging you!

Just remember the greens will be sandy for a few days - but will roll ok.

This is something we have been working on at Ladies Day. I move the mats to the left to give a better alignment. It is a problem I have - I used to hook the ball deliberately to get extra distance (pre super balls and clubs!) and I tend to stand closed to the target line.
This visual resonated so I thought I would show it here.
Often so much easier to see what we are talking about rather than just talking.
