Spofforth Golf Course Under new ownership as-of November 2024. Family run pay and play golf course. Choose from 8 holes, 13 holes or 17 holes.

Sunday 1st November - Spofforth GC will be open from 8.00am until 3.00pm.
The final day of the season for us.
You can book online or walk in and pay. Lower rates also - £15 for 8 holes and £20! for 13 holes or more.
The course is in really good condition so hope you enjoy your rounds.

Thank you to all the ladies who came for Ladies Day today.
The weather was pretty good for the most part but a shower and some windy gusts presented more of a challenge than we were promised!

It was Anna’s last day before her trip to NZ. Many thanks for all your hard work and always lovely demeanour. Safe travels and there will be a job for you here at Royal Spofforth when you get back (if any of us have jobs by then!).

Not giving up on the weather forecasters, however, so we have decided to keep the course open this Sunday, the 1st of November.
It would be a shame not to have a final Sunday golfing if we can keep it open.

Jason has offered to come in from 8.00am and will be here until 3pm - do try to support his efforts.

As a special incentive to golfers we will charge £15 for 8 holes and £20 for 13 and as many more holes as you would like to play - it does get dark early so please give yourselves time if you want to go round twice!

Weather forecast!
Well, I have been super critical of incorrect weather forecasts for some time but I have just checked tomorrow’s and I believe it unreservedly!
Well almost….
But it does look like our last Ladies Day of the season will be adorned with sunny weather…. Ok, maybe not shorts and sleeveless tops but dry, little wind and sunshine!
I will be there in any event - hope you can be there also.

A bit windy on the course but speaking to an intrepid 4 ball who said it was absolutely fine and they were enjoying their round.
It has warmed up and the rain has stayed away so we are open for play!
A fair bit of wind blown twigs and leaves of course but from what I saw there was no real damage and no trees down.
I will be back later to check again.
Hope it clears up for the last Ladies Day of the year on Tuesday. I will be there so hopefully I can pass on a couple of pointers to work on over the winter months.
Also, any questions you may have please just ask and I will do my best to answer them - ball position, tee height, full turn, chipping, putting - ask away and if I don’t know the answer myself I know someone who does!

Thanks to all the golfers who came and played today!
I know several were put off by another spurious weather forecast - especially the Ladies - but it turned out to be a really good autumnal day with no wind, no rain, no plague of locusts…..
The course is playing well, greens rolling true and pretty fast and the leaves aren’t too much of a problem.
We slit the fairways yesterday and today and will do more in due course.
We are cutting the greens every day but from a situation where we had to empty the grass boxes after every green there is so little growth it is only empty one time per round.
The cooler temperatures slow down grass growth dramatically and we will raise the cut during the very occasional times we need to cut over the next few months.
There are patches on the course that are already soft and we can predict what will happen when we get a few days of continuous rain! A real shame but that is life and we have to deal with it.
