🏌️‍♂️ Junior Golf Sixes at Harrogate

Yesterday, we held our very first Junior Golf Sixes event, giving our developing juniors the opportunity to experience competitive golf alongside children from other clubs.

It was a brilliant day, with teams of six representing Harrogate, Garforth, Wyke and The Manor competing over an adapted six-hole course.

A massive thank you to Charlie Mackenzie, George, our new Professional, Francesca, and all of the parents for their support. The event simply wouldn’t have been possible without you.

We’d also like to thank our members for being so welcoming to the visiting families as they arrived and finished their rounds. Several parents commented on the wonderful hospitality they received, which is a fantastic reflection of our club.

Well done to all the juniors who took part — we’re already looking forward to the next one! 👏

A golf club is about more than the course. It’s about the people you share it with.

For Geoff and Wendy, Harrogate Golf Club has been a special part of their lives for more than 50 years. Through decades of golf, friendships and countless memories, they’ve seen plenty of changes at the club — but also experienced the things that have remained the same.

We caught up with Geoff and Wendy to hear how the club has changed over the years, and what makes it such a special place to be part of.

Their story is a wonderful reminder that a golf club is about so much more than the game itself. It’s the people, the friendships and the memories that make a club what it is.

⛳ Hole 13 – A real test! 🌿

Set amidst one of the most scenic parts of the course, the 13th is a long Par 4 and a real pleasure to play.

It’ll take two good hits to reach the green in two, making this Stroke Index 1 for the men. For the ladies, it’s a Par 5, giving you that little bit more room to attack. 🏌️‍♂️🏌️‍♀️

🏆 We loved watching the Solheim Cup! ⛳️🏌️‍♀️

It’s fantastic to see ladies’ golf taking centre stage and inspiring more women and girls to get involved in the game. 🙌

Here at Harrogate Golf Club, we’re incredibly proud of our Ladies’ Section and, in particular, our Pathway, which is designed to help women get into golf, build confidence and, most importantly, enjoy playing.

And it’s brilliant to hear directly from the ladies taking part. ❤️

💙 Thank you, Sam & Gary! ⛳️

After many years as an integral part of Harrogate Golf Club, we’re saying a very big thank you and farewell to two hugely popular members of our team, Sam and Gary.

Both joined Harrogate as juniors and have gone on to dedicate a huge part of their lives to the club — building careers, coaching generations of members and, perhaps most importantly, creating plenty of great memories and laughs along the way! 👏

🏌️ Sam

Sam joined HGC as a Junior in 1993, becoming Junior Captain in 2000 and representing the club at junior and first-team level.

He became an Assistant Professional from 2001–2006 before becoming Joint Head Professional with Gary from 2007–2022. Since 2022, Sam has worked as a Teaching Professional and proudly achieved PGA Fellow status in 2024, having been a PGA member for 20 years.

🏌️ Gary

Gary joined HGC as a Junior in 1995, becoming Junior Captain in the late 90s before starting work in the Professional Shop in 1999. He turned professional in 2000 and gained his full PGA qualification with Merit Distinction in 2004.

Gary was Joint Head Professional with Sam before becoming sole Head Professional in 2022, taking responsibility for the Professional Shop.

That’s an incredible 27 years as part of the professional team at HGC — more than half his life! 🤯

Together, Sam and Gary have also organised many trips for our members to Dubai, Cyprus, Morocco, Abu Dhabi, Gran Canaria, Spain, Morocco and Turkey 🌍✈️⛳️

Their contribution to Harrogate goes far beyond the Professional Shop. They’ve coached generations of golfers, supported countless members, helped develop the club’s professional operation and been at the heart of so many great days and memories.

Two incredibly popular members of our team who will be very much missed.
Thank you both for everything you’ve done for Harrogate Golf Club, for all the hard work over the years — and, of course, for all the laughs! 😂💙

We wish you both every success and happiness for whatever comes next. 👏

🌱 Thank a Greenkeeper Day 🌱

Today is all about the people behind the scenes who make the golf course what it is.

At Harrogate, our greenkeeping team are out there in all conditions – mowing, maintaining, repairing and constantly looking for ways to improve the course. Much of what they do goes unnoticed, but you certainly notice the results when you step onto the first tee. ⛳

So today, we’re saying a huge thank you to our greenkeeping team for the skill, care and hard work they put into Harrogate every day.
