It is with heavy hearts that Tor Rugby Club announces the passing of a true club legend, Honorary Life Member, and dear friend, Simon Ferriday.

For over 30 years, Simon was the beating heart of Lowerside Lane. From coaching, treasurer, and committee roles, to marking the pitches, managing the bar, and carrying out endless unseen jobs behind the scenes, his dedication to our club was unmatched. Tor Rugby Club simply would not be the place it is today without his tirelessness, passion, and guidance.

Simon’s family have asked us to share the arrangements for the celebration of his life on Wednesday 5th August:

1:45pm – Forsey’s Funeral Directors, Glastonbury: For anyone wishing to pay their respects, please gather outside as Simon begins his journey to the crematorium. (Please note, the crematorium service itself is for close family only).

3:30pm onwards – Tor Rugby Club: Everyone is warmly invited to the club for a relaxed afternoon. We will raise a glass, overlook the pitch he cared for so deeply, and the family will be sharing some wonderful stories and details of his life that many of us may not be aware of.

Dress Code:
In true Simon fashion, please wear something Tor Rugby or Welsh themed, a club jersey, hoodie, tie, Welsh shirt, or simply a splash of red.

Donations:
Family flowers only, please. If you would like to make a donation in Simon’s memory, funds will be split between the British Heart Foundation and the new Tor Rugby Club Infrastructure Fund to carry on his legacy:

IT IS TIME TO EARN THE BADGE!

The talking stops and the hard work begins. Our senior men's campaign officially kicks off this week, and it all starts with putting the shift in at preseason.

You cannot expect things to just happen—you have to go out and make them happen. The glory on Saturday afternoons is built entirely on the sweat of training nights. 90% of our success this season will come from the unseen work we put in right now.

If you want to wear the Maroon and Navy, it starts here. It is time to earn the badge.

PRESEASON DETAILS:

⏰ Time: 6.45pm for 7:00 PM start
🏃‍♂️ Who: All returning, new, and prospective players are welcome!

While our 1st XV might be missing out on a Wells derby this season following their promotion, do not worry—the 2nd XV is keeping the rivalry alive! We have two massive local clashes against Wells 2nd XV lined up, and they are guaranteed to be fantastic days for the club.

☀️ FREE SUMMER RUGBY SESSIONS! 🏉

Looking for a fun, active way for your child to burn off some energy this summer? We are hosting completely free summer trial sessions for boys and girls who are looking to join our thriving Minis section next season!

These sessions are the perfect opportunity for next year's U10s to try a new sport, learn new skills, and make fantastic new friends in a safe, welcoming environment. Whether they are total beginners or have played before, everyone is welcome!

THE DETAILS:
👥 Who: Boys & Girls aged 8 & 9 (Current Year 4)
🗓️ Dates: Sunday July 5th, 12th, and 26th
⏰ Time: 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
📍 Location: Tor Rugby Club, Lowerside Lane, Glastonbury, BA6 9GY

☀️ TOUCH TUESDAY CANCELLED: BEATING THE HEAT! 🥵

As you’ll see from our latest update, the weather has officially gotten the better of us this week! With temperatures soaring, we have made the sensible decision to call off tomorrow night's Touch Tuesday session.

Player welfare always comes first, and it is simply too hot to be running around the pitches safely right now.

THE GAME PLAN:
🚫 Tomorrow: No Touch Tuesday session.
🚰 Your Job: Stay in the shade, grab an ice-cold drink, and keep hydrated!
🗓️ Next Week: We will be back at it as normal, provided the temperatures have dropped back down to earth.

Enjoy the sunshine safely, and we will see you all back on the grass next week!

🍿 BEATING THE HEAT: GIRLS RUGBY FILM NIGHT! 🎬

We were all set to head over to Somerton tomorrow for a fantastic joint training session, but the scorching heat has officially beaten us! To keep everyone safe and comfortable, we have moved the Somerton trip to next week.

But don't worry, we aren't cancelling our Tuesday get-together! Instead, we are keeping cool with some off-pitch social time and hosting a Girls Rugby Film Night at Tor Rugby Club.

WHO CAN COME?
Absolutely everyone! Whether you are a current player, you've joined us for a couple of sessions in the past, or you are completely new and just want to see what our rugby family is all about—come on down!

It’s the perfect, relaxed environment to make friends and meet the squad. Our coaching team will also be on hand all evening to chat, provide guidance, and answer any questions you might have about playing girls' rugby.
