A Life Well Lived
Perhaps the whole point of life
is simply this:
To live it fully.
Not merely to watch the days unfold,
but to truly inhabit them.
Look at the sunrise.
Really look.
And when evening comes,
do not hurry past the sunset.
Love people while they are here.
Tell them.
Hold them.
Forgive when you can.
Everything is temporary.
The flowers bloom and fade.
The waves reach the shore and retreat.
Day gives itself to night.
And still, they give everything.
So should we.
Feel the rain.
Dance.
Listen to music.
Travel somewhere new.
Marvel at ordinary things,
a morning coffee,
a shared meal,
a familiar path beneath an unfamiliar sky.
Choose wonder.
Risk tenderness.
Make mistakes.
Begin again.
And when life breaks your heart,
do not regret loving deeply.
A broken heart
is often simply proof
that you dared to be open.
So keep it open.
One day, the sunset will come,
and you will understand,
the point was never
to keep the light from fading.
It was to cherish it
while it shone.
So live.
Love deeply.
Forgive freely.
Notice everything.
Look at the sunrise.
Look at the sunset.
And somewhere between the two,
give yourself completely to this strange, beautiful gift,
this one life,
this one breath,
this one perfect moment
of being here.
And when that final sunset comes,
with a grateful heart,
you will whisper:
this was a life well lived.
