Last weekend, the Scottish National Championships went down at Thurso East 🌊—a world-class reef break and easily one of the best waves on the planet.

Broch Surf Club’s Mark Cameron, Israel Noble, and Callie Cruickshank made the long journey north to compete—and what a showing it was 👏

Mark set out to defend his Masters title and did exactly that 🏆, bringing the masters senio lchampionship title back to the Broch once again.

In the Open divisions mens and ladies, both Israel (17) and Callie (15) proved that age is just a number. Israel battled his way into the final with excellent surfing and some strong scores, finishing an impressive 4th place. Callie also reached the final, delivering excellent surfing and coming incredibly close to the win—finishing runner-up with just one minute left on the clock.

We missed having the full team this year, with a few members sidelined through injury, work, and other commitments—but we’re already looking ahead to next year with a full crew 💪

Massive congratulations to all Broch Surf Club competitors—an amazing effort all round 👏

And a huge thank you to the organisers, volunteers, and the incredible media crew who were legends both in and out of the water 🙌

ON THE BROCH 🖤 🤍

Good luck to all our competitors heading to the 2025 Gathering of the Clans! 🛡️🏄‍♂️

This year’s team was selected based on junior and open national results, plus a few wildcards where needed:

Masters: George Noble
Women: Lola Mitchell, Callie Cruickshank
Open Men: Israel Noble, Gabe Noble
Girls U18: Callie Cruickshank
Boys U18: Israel Noble
Longboard: Malcom Finlay

We’d love to have the whole Broch Surf Club representing—especially all our juniors, who are incredibly strong and the future of Scottish surfing—but unfortunately the Clans are limited in numbers.

We brought the sword home last year… let’s take it back again ⚔️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🛡️

‼️ Another lucky escape for two unsupervised young swimmers at the beach this evening at Fraserburgh ‼️ ‼️

The sand formation on the beach at the moment is creating strong rip currents mid beach and around the end of the promenade towards tiger hill on the mid and lower tides.

Two separate instances recently have resulted in unsupervised youths quickly being swept to sea in a matter of minutes. Without the quick response of local surfers, both occasions could have easily ended up in tragedy.

Local grom being todays hero 👏

With summer approaching and increased numbers of beach goers, please be mindful of the dangers of rip currents and to assess the conditions before entering waters.

Ask local surfers if you are unsure, they will for sure point you to the safe swim areas on the day.

Enjoy the beach & keep safe 🤙🏽
