After the national championships last week, Aidan Innes was straight back in the gym following his fight on Sunday 💪
After watching the fight back we knew what we needed to work on first up, his hesitation.
For this drill, I’m swinging a skipping rope in front of the bag just at a steady pace. Here I'm just wanting him to let his hands go and keep the shots fast while something’s constantly moving in his line of sight. It stops him from overthinking and forces him to react naturally. If he clips the rope, I just say to not get frustrated just treat it like you’re hitting your opponent’s gloves. Think of it as dealing with a really busy lead hand.
Next, we worked on getting Aidan comfortable on the back foot. Using a medicine ball as a target, I’m pushing forward just enough to keep him moving backwards. This helps him focus on his footwork, angles, and staying composed without getting trapped on the ropes or in the corners.
To finish, we got some pad work in working on different angles, counters, and mixing shots from body to head. Keeping the head moving, cutting under from different angles, and sticking to clean, simple combinations. 🥊💯
