Saturday Club Gravel Ride, 1st August: Shipwrights Way! On Saturday we ride the Shipwrights Way and follow the path the timber took to build our great armada, back when Britannia ruled the waves! Here are the details:

-> Start at the shop, Pedal Heaven, Fleet as usual @8.30am (late comers will be keel hauled)
-> Pick up some more shipmates at Bentley railway station @~9.15am
-> Stop for ships biscuits and coffee at Cloisters Continental Cafe
-> Finish in Portsmouth for a well earned tot of rum at Brewhouse & Kitchen - Southsea
-> Train back from Portsmouth Harbour, or ride back if you're feeling brave

Route as follows: https://www.strava.com/routes/3516803679730815768

The route is mostly off-road, but very tame. You'll be fine on a gravel bike, or MTB. We'll try and ride as one group but there will be a grupetto in the event of a split. However, we'll definitely start as one group, and aim to finish the same way.

I really enjoyed Goodwood Festival Of Speed last week but it was very warm stood out in the sun for so long. I hope you all got on OK on the club run. This week I had a lovely time out with the Thursday crew, even if I did struggle in the heat, the Lasham cafe was just as good as I remembered as well. I hope you all really enjoyed the clubs Wessex Ride last week and well done for getting 100 miles under your belts. It has been absolutely scorching this week so I hope you aren't too hot and bothered. On Saturday we're going to do a road ride to Reading which hopefully won't be too taxing in the heat. I look forward to seeing you all and feel free to bring along any friends to try the ride. I think you can entice them with the cafe stop as it's that good!

VC Meudon Saturday road club run 08:30 from Pedal Heaven, Fleet is a 50 mile circular route stopping at the The Street Bakeshop, Green Park, Reading for coffee and cake (https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/421353119) returning at 13.00ish.

On Saturday we have the the 100 mile Wessex solstice road ride details below. Enjoy yourselves!

The Wessex 100 is back for 2026! A 100 mile epic through the ancient kingdom of Wessex. Stopping for lunch at the halfway point in Hungerford at the John O'Gaunt Inn, we can't book outdoor tables but should be there as it opens to bag a good spot. Meet at Pedal Heaven for an 8.30am rollout. The forecast looks like it's gonna be a hot one so pack your electrolytes and sun screen! Given the heat, if we need to stop before lunch for a water pitstop we absolutely can, also we often stop on the way back at Whitchurch for a quick coke/ice-cream pitstop. Let's play it by ear but if you're running low on liquid, shout!

Fantastic to see a lot of you last week for the first time in ages. Tomorrow looks like it might be a bit of a washout so I'm sending the Alresford road ride on larger roads. Unfortunately I probably won't risk tomorrow so if you do go enjoy yourselves and I'll see you next week.
