What’s Stopping You Grow Your Interior Design Business?

Often, the answer to that question is you. For instance, does this sound familiar:

      - “I don’t have time to teach someone!”

      - “What if they get it wrong, and it affects my clients?!”

      - “It’s all in my head. There’s no way I could give it to someone else to do!”

I’ve had all these conversations with interior design business owners. But they’re all barriers that you can overcome.

Your next step, book a free 30-minute chat. Because you’ll get new ideas and renewed inspiration to move your business forward. What you won’t get, sales patter. Or, more importantly a bill!

Café Amici: Generosity on Fleet High Street

Yesterday was my daughter’s 9th birthday. And her favourite cake is mint chocolate cheesecake made by Fleet’s very own

We’d asked Café Amici if we could buy a whole cheesecake to takeaway. A request to which they kindly agreed.

Thank you Cafe Amici from a delighted 9-year-old and her family.

As we've seen in the last couple of months, LinkedIn can be a fantastic source of residential interior design clients. But LinkedIn restricts the number of connection requests we can send. So, does this mean we should concentrate our connection strategy on just potential interior design clients? Not necessarily, no. And this is due to how the LinkedIn search engine works.

When you search on LinkedIn the engine will first go through your connections (1st degree). And then their connections (2nd degree). Finally, your connections’ connections (3rd degree). As such, the range of your search is dependent upon your number of connections. The number of your connections' connections, and so on. As shown in the post's image.

Although LinkedIn users have on average 930 connections, a tiny proportion of accounts really distort the average. Most likely, your network is between 200 and 400 connections. The same is likely to the case for your connections' networks. And their connections' networks.

To boost your LinkedIn search range, connect with those users that distort the average number of connections. That's to say, those with massive networks. For example, recruitment consultants, business-to-business salespeople, and CEOs of large organisations. Just make sure those connections with big networks operate in the same industries as your target clients.

Have the recent posts from YourCoachApproach made you rethink the way you find interior design clients? In which case, find out what interior design business coaching can do for you:

Is your interior design marketing strategy based on social media folklore?

For instance, video always gets more engagement. Right? Not according to YourCoachApproach’s own LinkedIn data.

As shown in the infographic, my network was 3x more likely to see posts with images than video posts. Put another way, marketing messages reached 3x more people using posts that took far, far less time to make than a video.

No small business owner has time to waste. So, always base your marketing strategy on your data. And the social media insights you have available to you. Not folklore.

Yes! But it’s not a matter of sending 000s of connection requests. Not least, LinkedIn doesn’t allow it. Instead, put together a connection strategy using the info available on LinkedIn profiles. As shown in the image:

- Suitability: A LinkedIn profile holds common client info: gender, age, and earnings. At least when combined with job listings and company review sites.

- Familiarity: Look for people in companies near to you. As the closeness of your location to theirs can create a link. And connect with potential clients in the same company to give them the impression you know them. Because of your shared connections.

- Activity: Make sure they regularly use their account. The number of their connections and their like, comment, and post history provides the indicators you need.

What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments.

When we look to social media to attract residential interior design clients, the first port of call is commonly Instagram.

For the reason that its image-based ethos appeals to the visual nature of those in our industry.

But that doesn't mean that’s where our social media should end.

We need to spread our net wider to ensure we attract interior design clients.

Do you use interior designers’ jargon, and not the language of your clients?

When asked, many interior designers will say no.

But consider a few common phrases used in the Interior Architect and Design industry. For example, FF&E, accent wall, and drop ship.

All of these phrases are well-known in our industry. But they aren't well-known by those outside it.

That's said, it's easy to learn and use your clients language:
