Congratulations to Team Scotland🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 defending their ICC (International Challenge Cup) title over in Youghal, Ireland!

Teams from the Republic of Ireland (hosts), Northern Ireland, Scotland, France and Malta met at the Youghal CYMS to battle it out over 3 days, with Scotland captained by Craig MacGillivray coming out victorious retaining their title from 2025!

Taom or Triangle 🤔🤔

If you’re choosing a new chalk, Taom and Triangle are the two most popular options — but they offer quite a different experience on the table, and have a pretty big price difference too!

The chalk you use can affect the feel of the hit, grip between the tip and cue ball, how often you need to chalk your cue and even how clean your cloth stays. But, what’s the difference?

Taom is often better suited if you’re looking for premium chalk, well known for its major reduction of kicks and leaving very little marks on the cloth compared to the standard Triangle chalk.

Triangle is a more traditional chalk with a familiar feel, reliable grip and excellent value for money. However as you continue the play the table will get messy from chalk marks which also transfer onto the balls.

Both have their own advantages, so the best one for you really depends on what you look for in a chalk, how you play and how much you’re willing to spend.

Since we’ve welcomed so many new followers recently, we thought it was the perfect time to reintroduce ourselves. 👋🎱

Premium Cues is a family-run business with roots stretching back to 1989, when our founder, Paul, opened his first snooker and pool club in Edinburgh.

Paul has been involved in cue sports for decades and is currently the Chairperson of Scottish Snooker. He’s the business brain behind Premium Cues and has been instrumental in growing the business, bringing years of experience in the industry and a real passion for the game.

In 2023, Chris, a former world professional snooker player, joined the team. These days, you’ll find him doing a bit of everything — from packaging orders and helping customers figure out what they’re looking for, to photographing and editing pretty much everything you see on our website (to keep his OCD in check! 😂). Having played professionally himself, Chris brings the player’s perspective and is always happy to share his experience to help customers find the right equipment for their game.

And then there’s Anne — the one who keeps everything ticking along behind the scenes! From bringing in new stock, keeping orders moving, to handling invoicing, returns, couriers and all the admin that comes with running a business, Anne is usually the person making sure everything is where it needs to be and everyone knows what’s going on. Basically, she keeps the wheels turning and the rest of us right! 😂

Between the three of us, we’ve got a good mix of business experience, professional playing knowledge and plenty of industry experience. Most importantly, we genuinely enjoy helping people find equipment they’re excited to play with. Whether you’re buying your first cue, looking for an upgrade or simply not quite sure what you need, we’re always happy to have a chat and offer honest advice — no hard sell, just what we think is right for you.

We’ve been a team member down the last few days as Chris Totten plays in the 1st Q Tour event of the 2026/27 season!

Chris got off to a flying start yesterday, winning his first game 4-0 against Garry Coulson AND made the first century break of the tournament to top it off! 💪🏼

Back in action today at 6pm for round 2, good luck Chris! 👏🏼🎱

🎱 Soft, Medium or Hard — Which Tip Is Right For You?

If you’re choosing a new cue tip, the firmness can make a bigger difference to your game than you might think!

The right tip can affect how the cue ball reacts, how much spin you can generate, the feel of the hit and even how often your tip needs maintained. So, what’s the difference between soft, medium and hard?

If you’re looking for more feel, extra grip and maximum spin, a soft tip could be the right choice for you.

If you want a good balance of feel, control, spin and durability, a medium tip is a great all-round option.

If you prefer a firmer, more responsive hit, a crisp feel and greater durability, a hard tip could be the one for you.

Ultimately it comes down to your playing style, how you hit the ball and the feel you prefer. As these are all general points, they don’t always apply to everyone but hopefully they will help point you in the right direction when choosing your next tip!
