When your shoes are too big, the knock-on effect is that your cleats are much harder to position correctly. Add a saddle that’s too far back, and your knee can end up in a pretty unstable position over the top of the stroke…

Not being able to rest your hands on the hoods at the same time as relaxing into the saddle is a good indicator that your reach is not working for you, in this case we optimised hood position on the bar and moved the saddle forward and slightly nose up to make him feel way more planted and comfortable with his hands placed on the hoods.
